In GIFT, once the eggs are collected, the best eggs are then mixed
with washed and prepared sperm. The mixture is transferred into one
or both of the Fallopian tubes using a fine catheter under direct vision
through the laparoscope.
In the UK, a maximum of three eggs will be mixed with
sperm. Any spare eggs may be inseminated with the sperm for
IVF and all suitable
embryos are frozen for later embryo
transfer.
