Egg donation procedure

GIFT with donated eggs

Sperm must be sperated, washed and prepared before being mixed with eggs.

In GIFT, once the eggs are collected, the best eggs are then mixed with washed and prepared sperm. The mixture is transferred into one or both of the Fallopian tubes using a fine catheter under direct vision through the laparoscope.

In the UK, a maximum of three eggs will be mixed with sperm. Any spare eggs may be inseminated with the sperm for IVF and all suitable embryos are frozen for later embryo transfer.
