The cost of an embryo donation treatment cycle is an
important consideration for any couple. This depends upon whether the
embryos were donated by another couple, in which case the cost to the
recipient’s couple would be the cost of screening
the donor, monitoring the cycle and embryo
transfer. This is significantly less than if the embryos were created
as a result of separate sperm donation
and egg donation. However, the extra cost
needs to be balanced against the better matching
of both the sperm and egg donors to the physical and ethnic characteristic
of the recipient couple. Furthermore, embryos created from separate sperm
and egg donors has a higher pregnancy and live birth rates compared to
embryos donated from infertile couples.
