Re: November 2009 babies?

Nancy - Thanks so much for sharing your son's measurements. Our son's cephalic index started at 93% and is now down to 89%. His cranial vault asymmetry started at 7 and is now down to 3. His cranial base and mid-face asymmetry were only 2 to start with so they were not an issue. The orthotist would ...

Re: November 2009 babies?

Nancy - Yes, the PT place we go to specializes in children only. It's at a Children's Hospital. What were your son's final measurements (cephalic index, asymmetry) when he was discharged from his helmet and does his head look pretty much textbook perfect now or is there still a slight asymmetry? We'...

Re: November 2009 babies?

Hello, Wondercat and Nancy! Good to hear from you both. Our little guy is still in his helmet and yes, we are pleased with Hanger. His head is looking so much better! He is pulling himself up to a stand now and loves to do it all the time. He does both regular crawling and an army crawl to get aroun...

Re: November 2009 babies?

Wondercat & Nancy - We envy you both for having frozen embryos. We didn't have any that made it so would have to go through the whole process. Best wishes to you both!

Re: November 2009 babies?

Wondercat - For finger foods, we've tried pieces of banana, Gerber teething biscuits (which he really likes) broken into pieces, and Gerber yogurt melts. He's gotten really good at gumming things now. Still has only one tooth but I think a second is soon to show.

Re: November 2009 babies?

Hi, ladies! Great to hear from you both. Wondercat - Have you tried using the ready-made formula instead of powder? Our son seems to like that a bit better. Nancy - Yes, we're still going to PT but may start going every other week soon. His range of motion is better but he still holds his head a bit...

Re: November 2009 babies?

Hi, Wondercat & Nancy! Cute pic of Sean! Isn't it amazing how fast our little ones are growing!! Nancy - We went with Hanger for the helmet as it was our only option where we live. It's going well though he does get terribly hot with it on. He's able to sleep in it so that's a relief. He's already h...

Re: November 2009 babies?

Nancy - So how long will your son have been in his helmet when he's done? Glad to hear his head is looking great. We do still go in weekly to PT. Lately I've not done as well with keeping up with the stretches as I did when he first started PT. The therapist feels like now we need to mainly work on ...

Re: November 2009 babies?

Nancy - Our son is plagiocephalic. His cranial vault asymmetry was 7mm and already after one week it's at 4mm. His standard deviation was +2. What about your son? His neurologist suggested having his eyes checked as well so we did that yesterday and everything looks fine. He really is adjusting well...

Re: November 2009 babies?

Hello Nancy & Wondercat! Nancy - He is adjusting well to the helmet. Tomorrow night will be the first time he's to wear it while he sleeps. I'm so hoping he continues to sleep well through the night. Has your little guy still been sleeping well? We go in for adjustments weekly or more often if neede...

Re: November 2009 babies?

Nancy - We should be getting fitted for the helmet next week if it arrives. Fingers crossed that he takes to it ok. That's great that you're getting some solid sleep now! That's how it was for our little guy. He started sleeping well once he was able to sleep on his tummy and side. He's been sleepin...

Re: Nov/Dec 2009 Babies

Cymplicity - Our pediatrician said not to cut back on formula or breast milk. She said that's still most important as they still need the nutrition from it. The solids are just basically extras. It's hard though because I know our son sometimes would rather have the baby food. She said it's fine if ...

Re: Nov/Dec 2009 Babies

Tara - You could try the rice cereal that has fruit in it or the Gerber oatmeal. Are you mixing it with formula or breast milk rather than water? I started our son on baby foods just shy of 6 months. Just start them slowly with a new kind every couple of days to be sure each one doesn't cause an all...

Re: Nov/Dec 2009 Babies

Medstudentmom - My son was very attached to his paci as well and I thought he'll never want to give it up, but he actually stopped wanting it at about 4 months. We never took it away from him or limited how much he had it, but slowly he just seemed to lose interest in it on his own and started to li...

Re: November 2009 babies?

Thanks, Nancy, for your post! We do not live in Calif. and there's not a Cranial Tech. near us but we did go to Hanger for an evaluation this week. The orthotist seems good as he said if we need to be in his office every day for adjustments, that's fine and there would still only be the set fee of $...
