Fertility Boosters :-)

Postby Sunshine1576 » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:34 am

LOL Nobody needs to run off to eat Haagen-Dazs to get pregnant...But maybe things like fat may not be as bad in a diet as we think...Balance is really important.
Anyway I found this article tonight as I was woofing down a neopolitian milkshake!

Ice Cream Good for Fertility
by Hethir Rodriguez, B.S., M.H., C.M.T.

Harvard study suggests ice cream aids fertility for some women.

A diet rich in ice cream and other high-fat dairy foods may lower the risk of one type of infertility, a study from the well-known Nurses Health Study at the Harvard School of Public Health was published Wednesday in the European journal Human Reproduction.

Researchers found that women who ate two or more low-fat dairy products a day were nearly twice as likely to have trouble conceiving because of lack of ovulation than women who ate less than one serving of low fat dairy foods a week.
They found that women eating whole fat ice cream two or more times a week had a 38% increase of fertility than women consuming ice cream less than once a week.
MSNBC

Comments :

Hallelujah! It is funny that this study just came out a couple of hours ago. This entire last week I have been making “fertility milkshakes”, craving the calcium and fat. Now there is a study that proves it. This is just as great as the day we found out dark chocolate has more antioxidants than blueberries!

Why this does not surprise me:
Fat is essential in the manufacturing of hormones. If you are eating a low fat diet, there could be issues with ovulation due to lack of progesterone. The women who were eating low fat diets had higher chances of not ovulating, while the women eating real ice cream are having fertility success.

What does this mean? Am I allowed to eat ice cream now?
Yes, but under two suggestions. Eat organic dairy products. I know it costs more but you are worth it. And of course, as a part of a complete Nutrient Dense Fertility Diet.
And 2, Make it healthy by sneaking in some other fertility goodies.

Hethir’s Fertility Milkshake

1 C. Stoneyfield’s Gotta Have Vanilla Ice cream
1 C. Raw organic whole milk
2 scoops The True Whey

1T. flax oil/evening primrose – flax from ovulation to period. Evening primrose from day 1 of period to ovulation.

Blend in blender and enjoy!

Personally ladies I've never tried that recipe, but it looked interesting. Does anyone else have any fertility boosters?

Clinic told me yesterday to start drinking ALOT more water. I'm also under BMI, and have recently gained 3 pounds, maybe those milkshakes are working in more ways than I realize. lol I would still love to hear some comments from anyone out there!
I have also heard it very important to stay active, keeps the blood flowing to all the right places to help improve conception.

12 Nutrition Rules for Improved Fertility
1. Eat plenty of whole plant foods such as beans, grains, vegetables, nuts, seeds and fruits.
2. Get enough protein to meet your needs.
3. Chose healthful oils and fats. Avoid trans fats.
4. Substitute more nutritious ingredients instead of less nutritious ingredients in your recipes.
5. Eat more raw foods and cook other foods gently.
6. Eat a greater variety of foods.
7. Sharply limit your sugar intake.
8. Drink plenty of pure water instead of soft drinks and caffeinated beverages.
9. Make your meals tasty and simple.
10. Make good choices when you eat away from home.
11. Enlist your family's cooperation in preparing meals.
12. Use the 80/20 rule. Eat healthy 80 percent of the time. Don't try to be perfect, because you can't do it perfectly. :D

Ok my newest research is on finding ways to increase the uterine lining. I know a good nutrition diet will help, and I'm drinking plenty of water so much I'm practically wearing it lol...But before I get the trigger shot and all for my IUI, my doctor would like to see a thicker lining. So does anyone have any suggestions out there? Looking for natural regimens, such as sweet potatoes (the yams), brazil nuts and maybe raspberry tea. I'm wondering if aspirin would help, I know it thins blood, but wouldn't it cause more to flow down there, hence thickening the lining? I'm just throwing ideas out there, NOT MD approved, but certainly worth asking about progesterone supp. Why is it that they recommend taking progesterone after the procedure, but not before? It only makes sense to prepare the lining before...I'm just wondering out-loud and maybe half-hoping someone might provide me a reason. xxx Sunshine1576

By the way, doctor said no aspirin after the IUI, only tylenol but call her before taking anything else. She said no hot tubs, saunas and stay away from the swordfish...lol who eats that anyway?

Been sad but trying to accept that our iui didn't take, tomorrow would of been my beta day...Should of, would of, could of, it's just not fair on every level, but do know we cannot give up on our dream. So that's why I'm fighting and researching everything I can to find anything that may work. I cannot do this alone, I know someone else is out there reading this post at this very moment and can relate to what I'm going through. So the quest continues... Right now I'm reading about selenium and how it can help improve the uterine lining, pretty interesting stuff. I wish I could find a prenatal vitamin that had everything essential that we need. I don't know for sure if it was the lining that might of been why we didn't get a BFP on our last iui. I have exactly a 28 day cycle and know ovulation happened on day14 and we didn't do the iui until day 16, so could it be that we waited too long to go in for the procedure. I can say we had a time with the hcg injection that Sunday night. Maybe this post is for about me anaylzing what happened, but if you have any thoughts I would love to hear them. Sunshine1576

Ok so nobody else has suggestions right now, that's ok but I am going to continue on rambling... So this month dh and I are ttc without fertility meds, and I am still hopeful it can work. We are in that 10 percent unexplained infertility but I still have faith that anything can happen! I started 2 tsps of robittussin on day 5 - day 10 and drinking plenty of water with that. We are baby-dancing every other day, and with opk we should be able to hit ovulation right on.

My doctor had me take progesterone and aspirin before and after my ET. I started the progesterone the day before the ET. She also had me take Methylprednisolone before my ET, not that it helps with lining, but I never hear anyone mention it.

Thought this was interesting...

Infertility Due to Being Underweight by Hethir Rodriguez, B.S., M.H., C.M.T.

Studies have shown that being underweight could cause you to have troubles becoming pregnant. The main reason being women who are underweight may not ovulate, have a menstrual cycle, or enough fat for proper hormonal balance. For some people who are underweight it can seem difficult to put on weight and keep it on. Here are some tips to help you to gain weight the healthy and fertile way.

How to find out if you are underweight:
An easy way to find out if you are underweight is to find out your Body Mass Index using a BMI calculator. If you are in the range of 19 – 24, your weight is considered healthy. Having a BMI less than 19 is a signal that you are underweight. There is only one thing you can do to increase your BMI, eat more food. By focusing on eating fertility diet that is geared for healthy weight gain, you will be well on your way.

6 steps to becoming your healthy weight
1. Keep a food diary – Keeping a food diary is a necessity for gaining weight and keeping your body at a healthy weight. A food diary allows you to record your daily intake of foods so you know the reality of your eating habits and nutrient intake. Write down your meals in detail everyday. Set aside time to do this after each meal. You can use a small notebook or create one with this food diary form.

Track your diet for three days before you start your program This is how you will find out where your current calorie consumption is. Record the number of calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fats for your foods recorded in your food diary. My favorite tool for finding out the details of each food is the use the USDA Nutrient Data Base. You can search online or download the USDA SR18 nutrient-finding program in to your computer or PDA.

You may be surprised to find out that you are not eating as much food as you had previously thought. To find out how many calories you need to eat in order to gain weight, use a handy body calculator It will outline how many calories, carbs, fats, and proteins you need to eat a day. Your initial goal is to gain 1 -2 lb. a week.

2. Plan out your meals for the week. Similar to a body builder, it would be helpful if you keep track of what you eat, and how much carbs, proteins, fats, and calories were in your meal. To stay on track plan your meals and snacks so you don’t skip a meal. If a week seems like too much, start with planning the day. Take the total number of calories you need to eat and divide it through out the day.

For example here is a 2,200 calorie day:
Breakfast:
2 eggs
2 slices Ezekiel Toast
w/1t. butter
Oatmeal 1/2c
1/4c whole organic milk

Snack:
Fertility Smoothie
1c blueberries
2 scoops true whey protein powder
1/2c whole milk
1/4 c yogurt
1T maca
1 scoop ice cream

Lunch:
Turkey sandwich
Brie
vegenaise
Mustard
Ezekiel bread
Salad w/goddess dressing

Snack:
1c. yogurt
1/2c. Berries

Dinner:
Chicken breast
broccoli
sweet potato
w/butter

Snack:
Protein shake
1c. milk

4. Eat whole fat dairy, butter, and yogurt. Eating these foods will help you with your caloric intake. Make sure they are organic so you are not adding excess hormones to your body. If you have endometriosis or PCOS, it would be better to avoid dairy and yogurt and focus on using almond or rice milk to replace your dairy.

5. Eat 5 meals a day. Make sure your day consists of 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day or 5 smaller meals. This is for several reasons. The first is so you make sure you are getting enough calories a day. The second is to help keep your blood sugar balance level which is essential for healthy fertility and hormonal balance.

6. Eat nutrient dense foods. While ice cream is back on the menu, don’t fill up on empty foods just to get calories. Make sure you are eating foods that are dense in nutrients.

The one thing I can think of to thicken your lining is more estrogen. Why doesn't the clinic up your dose? When I had an IUI w/Clomid, it caused my lining to be too thin. They upped my dose of estrogen by a lot. Also, from what I've read, non-organic dairy contains more estrogen, which is why ice cream is supposed be good for fertility. Not saying that I believe that the answer to your problem is to eat ice cream. I think it is to speak to your RE about what to do such as using more estrogen supplements.

Karenbeach,
Sorry it has taken a while to respond back, after some time the "topics" get bumped down and I didn't see this until today. If you are still interested my dh takes a multivitamin "MegaMan" and it has shown improvement, but took 4 months b/c sperm slowly rebuilds itself. He also eats very healthy, mostly grilled meats with salads.

Mamaboo,
Thank you fro telling me this, my new clinic has me on an antagonist cycle where I stimmed early with Follistim and my estrogen level is now 900 as of today. Going back for another sNs this morning, with 6 follies for this IUI, I am feeling that we are moving forward and making progress.
