Baby and Pregnancy Jealousy

Postby HeidiBrockmyre » Mon Dec 10, 2012 9:42 pm

Many of my patients express the difficult feelings they face when hearing news of another friend's pregnancy or newborn baby. While they want to feel happy for their friend, they can't help feeling jealous and left behind.

Do any of you also experience these conflicting feelings? How do you cope with them?

I wanted to share a helpful tip for dealing with pregnancy/baby jealousy that seems to help many of my patients. Staying positive during your fertility journey can be a challenge as the emotional roller coaster ride takes its toll. Little tips to keeping your strength up can make a big difference.

Keep in mind that when you see around you just what you'd like to attract into your life, i.e. a baby, that it is a sign that is coming closer to you. Next time you see a baby or hear news of a pregnancy, express gratitude for a sign that you are getting closer to your dreams. Take a moment to close your eyes and imagine the day that you will spread the joyful news of your pregnancy. Feel it in your heart to already be true.

With this practice, you encourage the release of happy hormones, like serotonin, versus more toxic and disruptive hormones, like cortisol. Happy hormones are better for your fertility.
