infertility & miscarriage

Postby emma8 » Fri Aug 23, 2002 12:02 pm

recently discovered this site and realised we are not alone. Been through 2 iui's with nothing then about to start ivf but I have crohns disease which played up so had to put ivf on hold. In the meantime they suggested I have my had cysts lasered off and fell pregnant but miscarried at 9 weeks, fell again 2 months later and miscarried at 7 weeks. Have been told the cysts are back and ivf is our next option. Ivf clinic is now anxious to start our teatment(we get one go free) but are waiting on results from tests to see if any reason for miscarriage.
Am very scared, and beginning to feel that we may never have a family, am 34 and had another 2 close friends fall pregnant this month. Has anyone else had miscarriages for no reason but then successfully had ivf and carried to full term. Am so worried I will get pregnant then miscarry again.
Emma,
Really do know how you feel. I'm 35 and have been pregnant twice and miscarried for apparently no reason. First time at 7 weeks spontaniously and second time (over a year later) in what they called a missed abortion i.e went for a scan at 9 weeks and no heartbeat. They did tests but apparently there is no medical reason why I'm having trouble carrying. That was last Feb and decided to go IVF in May but can't seem to Down regulate. Am so worried, that after all this something will still go wrong, but guess that we can't give up. What's the alternative?
3 of my friends have had babies this year and have been told by my reflexologist to hold and sniff (yes I did say sniff) those babies as much as possible, apparently it stimulates our own systems. So it's hard but I'm sniffing away!!

Hi Emma,

Sorry that I do not have any answers for you, but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I too have had 2 m/c, the 1st after IUI treatment and the 2nd after my 1st IVF. I was told that the 2nd one was a chemical pregnancy and was just bad luck, but my first was down to me having + antipholpholipid antibodies. I was lucky and was tested for this after my 1st m/c and am now on asprin daily and after my next egg transfer (scheduled for beg Oct) I will have to take heparin every day. If I were you, I would push to have as many tests as possible. There might be something that can be easily resolved to enable you to have a healthy pregnancy.

I too feel scared about not being able to carry a baby. All I know is that I shall never give up hope and as long as my dr. tells me I am able to continue, that is what I shall do. I know of many women who have had multiple m/c's and gone on to have healthy babies.

Good luck to you and keep us posted.
Lisa
