Hello to all

Postby ajdecker » Sun Nov 26, 2006 6:25 pm

Hello everyone. I just wanted to tell you a little about us. I'm in my mid-30's and my husband is in his early 30's. We have been TTC for 9 years now. I have undergone an operation ( I forgot the exact name of it) to make sure my tubes were all clear (everything was fine) and then we did one round of Clomid and then Clomid with IUI. My DH has a lower sperm count and poor motility. Also, from what I understand the shape of some of them are not quite right. That was a little over a year ago. Next month, we are going to see a specialist. The doctor we went to before was just a gyne who has a lot of experience with infertility. I am nervous and yet excited about our starting this journey once again. I do not look forward to the stress and the roller-coaster ride, but have once again, dared to hope that we may be able to have a baby.
I'm so glad to have found this message board and really look forward to getting to know some of you as we go through these experiences together.

ajdecker: it has been a long journey for you! I am glad you are seeing a specialist next month (i assume and RE--reproductive endo?). Anyway, if you continue on, i.e., w/IVF you will find forums like this to be very helpful. i have not done IUI, had to go straight to IVF...but it is a rollercoaster ride for sure!!!! The best part is having support from people who ACTUALLY understand what you are going through! Good luck!

Sassynlv,

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, we are going to see an Endo. I still can't believe how scared I am. I think I'm building things up in my mind because I don't know what to expect. I'm worried about the side effects of the medication and then the egg retreival. I hate to work myself up even before I start though. Have you already been through it?

ajdecker: I can understand your nervousness. IVF (assuming that is what you will be doing) is a true rollercoaster, and being on forums like this is a lifesaver...the support is fantastic. i have done 2 IVF cycles so far, and am currently in the middle of my 3rd. We also have male factor problems, and i have poor egg quality. As a result we have been doing ICSI with our IVF. I haven't responded real swift to the meds, and those embryos we have gotten have not been good quality. My first time all embryos stopped growing, and per PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis), all were complex abnl chromosomally. My 2nd IVF my RE was more aggressive and we did get 2 blasts that were transferred, but they weren't great quality and i didn't get preg. So RE switched it up big time for #3, and so far, it looks better for me. But don't let my story scare you, plenty of people get lots of eggs, and get preg on #1 or #2. the meds can be uncomfortable, bloating, pressure in the pelvis from the growing ovaries, and more emotional than normal, but really is isn't as bad as you might expect. I am just uncomfortable for a few weeks. The retrieval again is not very comfortable, but most people only have significant discomfort for a day or two. The worst part for me is the waiting for test results, or waiting to go in for US, or how many eggs they were able to retrieve. It is torture!!! I think emotionally it is harder on me than physically.

make sure that you continue on the boards, especially after you have a plan w/RE regarding dates. Whether you do more IUI, or continue onto IVF, there will be a thread for you. These girls will REALLY understand everything you are going through and will be able to help you w/info.

Good luck on your journey!!!
