Starting in July and Scared!!

Postby michellep » Thu Jun 19, 2008 1:29 am

Hi, I am so glad to find this site and see that other women are new and scared, too! I am nervous..it seems like alot of women who go through ivf miscarry before becoming successful, although my doc told me the rates were the same as for normal pregnancy. I am also scared of drug side effects and egg retrieval, OHSS....on and on. I am hoping to find lots of positive stories and people to help me get through my first ivf cycle. I start meds July 2nd (Lupron, not sure how much) and would love to find cycle buddies! I am 31, no issues, my husband is 32 with a low count of late (initial sperm analysis was normal (34 mil, 69% mot) a year ago). We tried 3 IUIs, which is when the low sperm count was detected. It is slowly increasing, from 3 mil to 7 to 11 (after washes) which makes me think maybe it is getting back to normal? But we were trying to conceive for almost 2 years, so I am tired of BFNs! I am hoping that this ivf will be worth it and not to horrible! Any success stories are very welcome at this point! I am hoping that all of us manage to get through, one way or another!

Wishing you the best of luck! IVF is a crazy, crazy ride let me tell you! We had a very similar scenario--I was 30, dh 40--I had no issues that we knew of but dh had low count and mobility. So low that the doc recommended we skip IUI and go straight to IVF. We did one round of IVF where we had 9 embryos. We implanted 2 but unfortunately it was a BFN. I was devastated, but it helped to know that we still had 7 frozen and that we could go straight into a frozen transfer. All I had to do was wait for my AF and then we could implant. So we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, in desperation I took a home pregnancy test (sure it would say negative as the other 500 I had taken in the past had) and sure enough, we were pregnant. On our own. After spending over $10,000 on IVF. Oh well, that's just our style!

Anyway, I was once where you are now. And it isn't so bad. The needles are scary at first---I think it took DH 45 minutes to work up the courage to stick me with that first one--but you quickly get used to it. And it's so worth it! I'm hoping you have a great journey! BFP in your future.....

Wow, Meg, thats incredible. How long were you TTC before you tried IVF? Because we don't have any serious issues, I often think maybe we should just give it more time....especially after hearing stories like yours! But then I think, two years of BFNs is alot, why did it never work - I should be on baby #2 by now!! Anyway, I am so glad you got pregnant. What was your DHs sperm count, if you don't mind me asking?

We had been TTC for about 5 years...The first two just trying by not protecting against... the other three more hard core. I honestly don't remember his number, to tell you the truth. I"ll ask him if he remembers (he's out at golf league right now!) Sometimes I think it was the drugs that jump started it---that maybe it was something with me and the drugs just helped us along. Other times I think it's just the way it was supposed to be. Lucy (our daughter) is a very strong personality and we like to joke that she just pushed her way ahead of her brothers and sisters (the frozen seven!)

My suggestion is that you don't second guess yourself. It sounds to me like you are ready to get to the next level of trying. Just relax (ha!) and try to laugh throughout the process as much as you can! I know that as you are going through it things seem really bleak, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Try to laugh at the little things throughout and hopefully it will be a quick process for you. And definitely stay on this board--try to join the monthly cycle thread it will help to talk with others going through it at the same time! You are so not alone!

i'm starting stims on 7/7 hopefully if my cysts seen on mock transfer are gone and not producing excess estrogen. i think i'll be close to your cycle.

Day 1 of Lupron July 4th!!!

Postby AlleyCatt » Wed Jul 09, 2008 9:12 pm

Hi future moms!

I am on Day 6 of my Lupron inj. and anxious. I am 28 yo and DH is 30. We have MF infertiliy with good motility/count but very low morph so IVF/ICSI was the only way to go. Unfortunately we have gone down a long road of heartache up until this point. We have been TTC for 4 1/2 yrs total. After 12 months of nothing, I decided it was time to see my OB. He recommended Clomid 50mg CD 5-9 right from the start, no labs no hsg no nothing. Was on Clomid for almost 6 months before a friend told me to look at getting a HSG. Luckily I worked at a radiology facility so I had it done and got the results right then and there. I started crying...everything was clear as could be. I asked my OB to run a SA on my DH which came back abnormal. He stated there was an "infection" and referred him to a urologist. That was a cut and dry appt. The Urologist handed my DH a script for Doxycycline and told him to take it for a month and everything should be fine. A month later, nothing better. Finally we decided after 2 years that we should look into a infertility specialist. That was when I met my RE. He gave us our options of IUI or straight to IVF. I knew that we had the coverage for IVF but didn't want to use it up because of a lifetime limit so we did 2 cycles of Clomid/IUI (Jan 07, Apr 07) Both came back with a BFN. We decided to take a break knowing that our only option was IVF/ICSI because all our MDs told us there was nothing else we could do to correct DH's morphology. I wasn't giving up so I started doing research...had him taking vitamins and stuff but no luck. Finally we got a break, I was training a girl at work who saw my little calendar that I got from my RE, she asked what the issue was and I told her. She said that her DH had the same problem and just had surgery for varicocele repair. I jumped on the phone that day and made my DH's appt. The surgeon (specialing in male infertility) started my DH on Tamoxifen to see if he could jumpstart his sperm but no increase in the morph. So by 7/07 he had the surgery for bilateral mild varicoceles and every 3 months after that we had gone back for a f/u. When we had our f/u 1/29/08 and were told still no change I decided not to wait anylonger. I found another RE that has a well known rep in DFW, Dr. Brian Barnett. I made the appt but decided to hold off long enough for us to have our final SA with the surgeon in April 08. Well, on our first appt with Dr. Barnett I laid it out that I was ready, we were ready...it had already been 4 1/2 yrs. So, the process started...labs, ultrasounds, mock transfer and now I am at Day 6 on Lupron. I have to have labs drawn on 1st day of AF to make sure that the 2 cysts on my ovaries from ovulating are not building up my estrogen or else once I start my stim (Gonal-F) it will only cause the cysts to grow rather than the follicles and I will have just wasted "GOLD"!! I really am excited but I have braced myself over the past 4 1/2 yrs not to get my hopes up but I do think positive!!!

My Dh had cancer and the chemo lowered his count, morphology and motility. RE said we had to go straight to IVF/ICSI. We did one cycle and we were very blessed to get a BFP. Keeping the PMA is very important it is also important that you guys see this as a joint effort and support each other, it is very tough but so rewarding. Don't get scared with meds, it ends up making sense and the calendar helps. Good luck and I am throwing tons of baby dust for you!

Hello - I'm new to this website and decided to register since I feel like none of my friends understand what I'm going thru. My DH is 32 and I'm going to be 31 in about two months. We tried for over 2 years now and still no luck. We made an appointment to see the specialist next Tuesday, July 29th to see if we should start IVF. My DH has a low sperm count. All of his siblings have at least 2 kids of their own and I don't understand why he has low sperm count. Does anyone have any idea? Also, I'm scare and hoping someone could be my friend and help me thru.
