IVF Medication Costs

Post by jayeyedee » Wed Jan 14, 2009 5:23 pm

I am scheduled to start my first cycle in February. I have insurance and "assumed" medication was covered.

The insurance company called me today and when they gave me the total I almost fell out of the chair!

Does anyone know where to get this medication at a discount pharmacy?

Does everyone pay thousands for meds??

Please let me know. I knew we would have to pay a few thousand for the process; however, I hadn't factored in having to pay for all of the medication.

Thanks!!

Jay

I know how expensive the meds can be! It took me three tries to get pregnant. My insurance paid for some of the meds the third time, with my new insurance, but I had to pay the other two times. Even with the insurance it was a bout 2K. Luckily I stimmed well and didn't need a lot of follistum. I would ask your RE if he knows of a discount place.

Jay,

Which state do you live in? If you live in Iowa, which I'd be surprised, then I know of a place that is cheaper than the rest. We used them with my wife's process and they were absolutely fantastic. They were cheaper than everyone else and knew everything about the invitro process. We still spent quite a bit of money, but it was better than it would've been through a regular pharmacy. Good luck............

My insurance really doesn't cover much - some of the office visits and the u/s. They didn't cover any of the meds at all! So far we have paid 2500. The office uses a specific pharmacy and they did give me a discount for paying cash.

I have seen a few places on this site where people are selling some of their drugs. You might want to check it out.
