A slightly Positive HPT

Postby serenehwc » Wed Aug 03, 2005 1:40 am

Today is the 23rd day post embryo transfer and I got a slightly positive HPT at the clinic this morning. Menstruation bleeding hasn't started. Dr told me the 3 possibilities. First, early sign of miscarriage. Second, entopic pregnancy. The last but the most wanted is normal pregnancy with abnormal HCG level. What is the possibility of giving birth to a normal child with abnormal HCG level? Has anyone here come across such situation? Kindly please help

Hi Serene,

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It's so frustrating as I'm sure you just want to know one way or the other whether you have a viable pregnancy.

Do you know what your HCG level was? Are you having a repeat HCG done? It's not so much the initial level that is important. What is important is the rate at which the level increases. The level should at least double in a 48hr period, which is why I ask whether you are due to have a repeat HCG done. If you are not then I recommend you ask for one. Some girls start off with low HCGs and have had normal pregnancies. The fact that you haven't had any bleeding is a good sign.

Hoping that it works out for you.

Hello, like Barny says, the best thing is to get a repeat blood test as soon as your clinic will let you. I'm intrigued by your having the test at Day 23 vs. ca.14 which is more usual. Do you know why it was so late?

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
ps. with my ectopic my HCG level wasn't below normal on Day 14.
