MY HUSBANDS SPERM COUNT

Postby 194208 » Tue Oct 24, 2006 4:02 pm

Hi, this is my first time on this site, I was looking for some advice. I'm pretty confused about alot of the codes used and others I understand. I am 31 and my husband is 32. I have a 10 yr old from a previous marriage and he has a 7 yr old. We have been ttc for 2 years and thought it would be no problem..... I thought for sure I had a problem so I did all the blood work and the hsg test (the dye test). The doctor said everything looked great and put an order in for a sperm count on my husband. Well, we recently found out my husbands sperm count was 100,000 and none were moving :(. That particular weekend he drank at least 50 beers and went to do the count monday morning. The doctor said we have to do another count with no beer, or caffeine and suggested we order proxeed. We are waiting until October 7th to get the 2nd sperm count. Then they suggested do a third because it takes 3 months for sperm to rejuvenate. Well, I'm pretty bummed out and he feels he let me down. He has not drank for almost a month and cut all caffeine. He's doing it but having a hard time (on average he was drinking at least a 24pack of beer every weekend for a really long time). My question is has anyone ever heard of 100,000 (sperm count) going to a normal level just by cutting out alcohol and caffeine. I know we just started the process but I don't want to waist time until my age becomes a risk factor. I also got a price from a fertility clinic of 14,000- 15,500 for one cycle of IVF or ICSI, is that the going rate. Does anyone have any suggestions about any of this??? Or are there any successful pregnancies/suggestions of infertility specialists in the orange county california area? Thanks and everyone sounds really supportive on this site!
