Finally - Lucky #9!!!

Post by kellym » Thu Feb 07, 2008 2:42 pm

I wanted to post an inspirational story for those women who feel like it may never work for them.

Yesterday I got the news of my BFP on my 9th cycle of IVF. As you can imagine we are over the moon.

I've had 2 chemical pregnancies before with betas of 30 and 68 but this time (and I tested early at 9dp5dt) I had a beta of 267!!! We are thrilled.

So, if you are able to, keep trying because eventually it will work. I told my DH that we were originally told that statistically it should work within the first 3 attempts. So, since it took us 9 attempts, does it mean that all three blasts stuck and we'll have triplets? I guess we'll have to wait and see!!!

When is your first ultrasound? Sounds like you may have multiples. My first beta which was also 9dp5dt was 129 and I ended up with twins : )

Keep us updated on your progress. Oh and Congratulations!!!!!!

Thanks for the well wishes! We are so excited. We got our beta on Friday and it more than doubled so we are feeling good.

We are wondering whether we have multiples but won't find out for a couple of weeks. I am waiting to hear today when my u/s will be. Kabillion, when did you have your u/s? It is usually sometime week 6 or 7?

My first ultrasound was done 15 days after my first beta. So basically one month from my egg retrieval. Keep us posted on your ultrasound findings. Hope you have a few babies in there : )

Hi Kelly

congratulations to you! I have had 9 failed attempts and am awaiting a hysteroscopy to see if they can find anything wrong with me. I've had every other test going. the only reason we're doing ivf is because my husband had a vasectomy during his first marriage.

what did you do differently on your 9th attempt?

Natalie Anne,

That was the same problem as we had (at least that was what we were told) - my husband had a vasectomy and then a reversal which apparently didn't work.

We found research that said that if the time between the vasectomy and reversal was more than 10 years there was a greater chance of dna fragmentation (a chromosomal problem with the sperm). These sperm still fertilize the egg, but the embryos that develop from fragmented sperm have a higher degree of chromosomal abnormalities. Anyway, my DH got the test and found that he had 50% fragmentation. Apparently between 0-15% is good, 15-30% is fair and 30 + is poor. We did try donor sperm but that didn't seem to help for us. But it might be something for you guys to look into.

The test is quite easy and takes only 2 weeks to get the results (at least in Canada).

We were finally successful when we decided to try donor eggs. I guess after all those attempts the problem really resided with my eggs - given I am 35 they kept thinking that couldn't possibly be the problem.

Best of luck to you guys! It is hard going through 9 failed attempts. Have you had any chemical pregnancies?
