Has anyone frozen blastocysyts ?

Post by Sita » Sun Mar 09, 2008 6:22 pm

Hi Girls,

The clinic I am going to has said that they do not freeze any remaining good blastocysts. I am surprised as I heard that there is a technique called "Vitrification" whereby blastocycsts are frozen.

Anyone had any similar experiences ?

Will love to hear from you..

Love,
Sita

Personally, I would avoid a clinic that does not have a good embryo freezing program. Frozens are a great backup if the fresh transfer fails.

Vitrification is one freezing technique that is not yet common, but seems to be gaining popularity. It involves a very rapid freeze, so that ice crystals cannot form. Most clinics use a conventional slow freezing technique.

I went to the Lister in Chelsea and I have 2 frozen blastocysts waiting for me. One frozen on day 5 the other on day 6.

Hi Sita (btw i love your name).

I have 2 frozen blastocyst. The transfer will be on Friday 14th March, if they survive of course.
My clinic only freeze embryos that get to blastocyst stage.

sorry i have never heard about the technique you have mentioned.

Oh and i'm from Essex just for your reference.

good luck to you

Sita,
The baby I am now carrying is one of my last 2 frozen blastocyst and they were not the best grade either, at least not as good grade as the fresh. I've read that embryos that reach the blastocyst stage have a stronger survival rate. The clinic I went to had just as high success rate with frozen blastocysts as fresh transfers. I would avoid going to a clinic that does not freeze good remaining blastocyst.....what a waste! Sounds like they don't have a very good lab.

I would not stay at a clinic that doesn't offer to freeze your blasts. Those are your potential babies!!! I am so sorry you had to let them go (
