Hiya Ladies~

AKmom~welcome to the board. How old are your children? I wish you all the best in getting them a baby bro/sis with your new husband! Congrats to you on scoring a young, spunky man! I am cycling now too--so we are on similar schedules.

Kelly~That is terrific that Liam was conceived naturally--so you know for sure you've got all the right stuff. I think he is going to have a new baby bro/sis very soon.

Renee~How are you feeling? Has the bleeding stopped?

I took my first injection this morning! I have two days of just Buserelin and then I add in the Puregon injection. I am on a microdose flare protocol. I am feeling a bit more hopeful about this IVF 3, but still scared. Im trying to stay positive and not think about the possibility of another negative cycle. This one has just got to work!

SueQ

I wasn’t sure how I was going to be received on this board, but I think the goodness comes for those of us that are 38+ years in age. So thank you. My children are 17, 13, and 11. My son who would have 15 years old died of SIDS at 4 months; more than likely the beginning of the end of my first marriage. I have two daughters and one son living.

I see you are on the Flare protocol---man that is intense! That was my 1st protocol which pretty much blew up! I was so sick from the overstimulation and gained weight like crazy. I am almost 5’8” and at the beginning of my cycle I was 128 lbs….I couldn’t believe how rapidly I gained wt. and my ovaries felt like they were going to explode.

This long Lupron protocol is not as aggressive, thank God, but I hate the injections. I have not had a retrieval yet, and am nervous about it. What is that like? Like I said, my husband had his “boys” tested and his motility is at 50% and quality is the same, imagine his shock! So ICSI is eminent, and they will do a 50/50 split.

My hormones are raging and if one more person cuts me off on the highway, I think I will implode! Do you know anything about what is considered a “high responder” I hear all these terms and I have to educate myself via internet (and we all know how scary that can be).

Needless to say, my docs were very surprised at my response, they did not do much pre-testing since we understood what my “infertility” was= tubal. I am hopeful and try to be realistic. I hear of moms over 40 conceiving all the time and it is encouraging.

Yes, I did score with a young handsome husband. He has the patience of Jobe. I am blessed! Hey---Demi did it and men do it all the time!

Kelly is great!

Good luck Sue Q. If you would like to email me directly pls feel free to do so. (kathleenjohnson3@yahool.com)

Aloha Renee...

Yes, I do live in Alaska, we make it to your beutiful Island every year. We own a home in Kailua on Kakahiaka St., (I love saying that street name), its rented, so going over often is a great tax shelter... I love Sandy beach and North Shore, however I am not brave enough to surf it during the winter months! I'm not cazy.

I gotta tell ya, that many eggs (40+) is miserable! I was so uncomfortable and bloated, I felt prego but wasnt and then when they canx me becasue they were afraid of OHSS you can imagine my disappointment, I was upset at the fact that (1) I am 41 and (2) that I dont have that many "good" eggs left and then to waste them all...I cried right in the middle of the mall.

I am excited that Sue from NewZ is on the same cycle I am, I have so many q's and it is a comfort knowing someone is else is on the same journey.

Renee how are you feeling? You are so kind to check in on everyone.

Hi everybody. Sorry i have been slacking. Nobody was posting so i took a break.

NY, i am so sorry. I saw beta number 1 on another thread. I hope it was just a slow starter. If not, i know you are in a crappy place right now. I hope you come back and post when you feel better. BIG HUGS.

Welcome AKmom. Holy Cow, you are a high responder. Hell, most women in their 20's don't respond like that. I have a suggestion for you. Next time, even if you do hyperstim, try to talk them into going through with the retrieval. Then have them freeze the good looking blasts. You can then do a natural FET a couple of months down the line when your OHSS has resolved. If you already have all the symptoms of OHSS there is no reason not to do the retrieval. But you would not want to do the transfer. Not a good environment for the embryos. As you know, you are likely not to have very many good eggs because of your age so why waste them. Nor do you want to waste the money. Just my 2 cents. Also, i am sorry about your baby's death. Very sad.

Natashamom, CONGRATS on your BFP. I am betting on multiples with that first beta.

I will update the list later today.

Waving hello to everybody!!!

Hiya Everybody~

AKMom~You are so lucky you are a high responder! That is terrific for ladies our age. Unfortunatley I am a low responder. I get very few eggs. I have been on the highest dose of Puregon (300units) for both my cycles and only got 4 eggs each time. But the Doc says they were surprisingly good quality as all 4 fertilized and divided each time! Now I just gotta get one to stick. Kelly's idea about saving all your blasts for later FETs is good. (If you get overstimulated).

I hear ya about this flare protocol--it is brutal. I put on a bunch of weight on my pevious cycles also. Not much fun to go through all this and get nothing but FAT! lol. I joined a gym after my last failed cycle and have worked out religiously for the last 3 months so I am going into this cycle rather buff. Im hoping my fitness might help my fertiltiy too. I have also been taking Chinese herbs.

I dont want to scare you about egg collection--but it is my most dreaded part. One of mine was quite painful with a lot of blood and the other was not as bad. And of course my anxiety is intensified as I am paranoid about getting enough eggs. My Doc does not knock me out--I am just woozy through the procedure. I think I would do much better if I was knocked out!

Renee~I am so happy to hear the bleeding stopped! Hooray!!

Natashasmom~Congrats on your BFP!! What super news. You are an inspiration to us.

NY~I was hoping you would pull a surprise BFP after the negative HPT. But I am sad it does not appear to be so. A big hug for you.

It is my second day of Buserelin and I start the Puregon tomorrow! These drugs make me a crazy person. And sleepy-I go to bed so early but then have crazy dreams! I can already feel some action in my ovaries. I hope it will all be worth it in the end.

Did all you ladies quit alcohol/coffee while cycling? do you think it really makes a difference?

Coffee and alcohol

Post by Sisi1 » Wed Feb 04, 2009 8:47 pm

Coffee is definitly contra-indicated for conception, even one large cup a day has shown reduced conception rates so yes I have given up coffee.

I do enjoy the occational glass of vine/beer but I let it go as well during my cycle.

In terms of comparisons I would say coffee is probaly more harmful then a glass of vine while trying to conceive. You can just feel the effects on your uturos during your period, a cup of coffee causes it to contract and that is not good for implantation.

Oops sorry bout that ladies, I did not mean to repost. Sometimes these computers have minds of their own.

Kelly, I liked your suggestion, in fact, I wondered why they just didn’t do that. I was thinking they were concerned about the quality since my estradol level was over 5000 at the first blood draw, they coasted me and it kept climbing until it was 7200 or so. I did not feel that my Dr. really communicated with me all that much. While I appreciate the protocol they put me on (age based), I felt they could have done more prelim testing then they did. Since my infertility issue was a "known" I think they went the overkill route. Oh, and get this...I was on BCP's the whole time....imagine their shock when I asked them if I should stop taking the BCP's--a lot of "oh my God's" were being thrown around.

Before coming to this board I really did not fully understand the whole process and the fact that women our age do not ovulate like a 20 year old does, I mean common since would dictate that, but I was unaware the actual stats. So when my Dr. commented that he did not expect me to ovulate like a 25 yr old, I now know what he means.

Kelly, you are a wealth of information and I really appreciate your input and education information you share. I am wondering that since I have had children and my body basically knows this, what about factors like my uterine lining? What about Multiples? I could handle 2....but not more than that. In fact, due to my OB history, I have told my Dr. that I do not want more than 2 embs transferred, am I being overly cautious?

Thanks again for all you do, your support and more importantly your kind and encouraging words.

Hello everybody.

NY, i have not found a post with your second beta. I am assuming it was not good. I am so sorry.

Kat, i am calling you cougarkat in the list. I think it is fitting. I hope you don't mind. When do you start stims? You definitely have a better shot since have had natural pregnancies. Given your age, i would normally say that you should transfer at least 4. But your body is atypical in how it responds to all of this. Maybe you have better eggs than most AMA patients too.

Here are some suggestions. if you can get them to push the transfer and freezing until day 6 days post retrieval they should be able to select the 2 best quality blasts for ET. If you have several to pick from on day 6 then could see just transferring 2. The problem is that even though you have a ton of follies you may not retrieve nearly as many eggs, then many may not be mature, others will not fertilize, some will die before ever making it to blast and some of the blasts will be such poor quality by day 6 that they will not be transferable. You just have no idea how things will play out. If you end up with only 4 great to okay blasts then i think you should put them all back in. If you have 4 great looking day 6 blasts (which is very unlikely even in much younger women) then transfer 2 and freeze 2. I hope i am making sense.

Also, as far as hyperstimming goes, you need to have a game plan before you start stims. You can decrease the amount of stims you take, they can be aspirated some of the small follies after a few days of stims, you can use 1/2 dose of hcg trigger or use something other than hcg to trigger. All of these things will decrease the amount of corpus luteums you have and/or the amount of hormones they will release. That will decrease the odds of OHSS and lessen symptoms associated with OHSS post retrieval. So you need to discuss the options with your doctor now. Let me know what he says. I am not a real doctor. I just like to play one here.

I almost forgot to comment on the caffeine/alcohol. I think both are fine in moderation especially up until ER. Once you have retrieval you should cut back on both. Caffeine is more important with uterine blood flow and implantation etc. So i basically agree with Sisi. Unless of course you develop OHSS, in that case i would freeze all and let your body return to normal before transferring. Odds of success are lower if you do a fresh transfer and the symptoms will get much worse and last longer if you do get pregnant from the fresh transfer. Again, all of this is just my opinion from reading multiple ivf boards for a long time. So take it for what it is worth.

Sue, congrats on starting to stim. Now the fun begins. I can't wait to see if this cycle is different on the Chinese herbs. If it is markedly different i think i will start going to an herbalist.

Sisi, is your next ER early or late March. Mine is late March. I hope yours is earlier but if not at least we will be cycling together.

Renee, again when is your EDC? How did it go when you told your DH the news? Also, did you tell your doctor about the bleeding and remind him that you are RH negative? If not you need to do NOW. I really think to be on the safe side you should get a RhoGam shot.

Hil, how are your studies on ovulation prediction going? Did you join FF?

Tammy, how is the OV watch thing working out?

Natashamom, again congrats!! I saw your first beta somewhere but now i can't find it. I know it was high though. Could you post it here please?

Blake'swife, any news on when you will be start cycling?

Mitch1967 and Kris have you made any new plans?

well its over another chemical..it sucks.. i am a REALLY bad statistic... i am blessed that can afford to contiue to keep trying with no insurance..

here is what i posted elsewhere...

sharing on this level very hard for me but here it goes... i have never failed at anything that i have worked hard at and wanted SO much.. i have given this my all... and i always thought the universe wanted me to be a mom .. i forgave mine for being so awful even though i havent seen her in 25 years
i got pregant 2x younger and made bad decisions for wrong reasons but thise that were positively motivated at the time.. one of the fathers said it was bad timing for his kids (who know treat me like MOM and their real MOM was the best woman at my wedding)

.. yet i am not with the father s so maybe right but i am being punished now.. and i am questioning my belief in God.. i have had so much hardship in my life i thought he might give me this one...

so everyone...

please everyone understand sacrifice is relative .. i have gone from having a comfortable and secure lifestyle to one that while near term cash is not an issue everything else has ceased but this.. and paying our mortgage..in the end i waited a long time to marry and chose the nicest man i had ever met and someone who cares vs the billionaire types i used to date.. and let me tell you this IVF process even wears on the nicest guy you have ever met... and i can undertsand why.. This is HARD!!!sometimes i feel guilty on this site because in having resources to be able to pay for this stuff i am luckier than most (and BTW they are my resources more than DH'S).. but i clearly am so not lucky.. but i often feel guilty complaining because you guys are going through so much more than me... i dont want to lose my husand but i also dont think i can quit now

i cannot say how much the support from everyone on this board means to me..
it has kept me sain..
you women are amazing!!!

sorry for the rant.. you ladies are the only people i can talk to about this

Good luck to all the nice ladies on here!

AHHAHAHA Cougarkat. That is hilarious! Kelly, are you sure you are not a doctor!? I need a dang physician’s dictionary to get thru all that! Yeeesh! Those questions are good, I will present them the next time I communicate with them….which seems like forever in-between then I hang up and think oh dang, I forgot to ask…. .

Okay, let me see if can explain this right: I am to take .1cc of Luprolide the last 5 days of BCP’s plus 4 more days, then drop to .05 cc’s the remainder of the cycle. Pre ultrasound 3 days b4 Stim cycle begins on 2/11: .05 cc of Luprlide, 150 IUs Gonal F or Follistim and 75 IUs Repronex all this in the eve between 6 and 10pm. 2/16 first day of blood draw and foll check in am (this is Day 8 of stim cycle) ER is schedule for 2/20-2/23. I really hope this works.

NY, your rant was heartbreaking. I know how it feels to question your belief in God, I’ve been there; when my son died, for example, I would wonder how God would take something so loved, so precious from someone who WANTED to be a mom—a good mom. It does seem cruel and unfair, and growing up Catholic didn’t help, the guilt I felt for being mad at God, for questioning him, made it seem as though I was even more deserving of his injustice purported upon me. I know there is nothing I can say, or that anyone else can say for that matter. That feeling of being in a room full of people even ones you know and you still feel alone. That screaming voice inside your head that no one else can hear but you. But it seems that you have the courage of Roman, you will get thru this and your husband loves you and he wants you to be happy more than anything in the world. I am sure he feels helpless and sad. I have not been on this journey for long, and am blessed to have children, this I know, but the women on this board are amazing, no jealousy, no competition, no judging. We all want the same thing for ourselves and each other, there is comfort in knowing that you are really are not alone. So rant away, we will listen!

Time for bed here in Alaska. Good night ladies, sweet dreams of babies.
