First ultrasound--need input

Post by krisnerol » Thu Dec 04, 2008 7:02 pm

Hi Ladies,

I went for my u/s today (today I'm 5w5d prego, though my er was in the afternoon, so the fertilization would have been later in the day and my u/s was 7:40 am, so maybe I'm 5w4-1/2d!; am I grasping?) Anyway, everything went well, BUT the technician said that the TWO (yes two) sacs "should" be measuring around 1cm and they're measuring 1/2 cm. My nurse and actually all the nurses in the office were quick to say that it's still very early, that sometimes the sac starts off slow and catches up, that all they were concerned with seeing today was (a) how many (b) were they in my uterus and (c) was there something in the sac (there is in both). I was sobbing. I asked if there's still hope and they're all very optimistic, but the tech's words can't get out of my head. The two babies explain a lot--why I am so very tired all the time and why my pants are already not fitting! I feel pregnant and try so hard to put this in God's hands, but it's a roller coaster ride. I go back in two weeks and will pray and think good, happy thoughts for my little ones til then, but was hoping for some positive feedback from you all. Oh, and for all the ladies with lower hcg #'s it doesn't necessarily mean there's only one--my #'s weren't very high and I have 2! They said the #'s can be like that. With my dd they had thought I had mulitiples 'cuz my #'s were high. So watch out Thanks, Kris

Oh Lord! I wish that technician had not made that comment...sometimes they can be so drives me nuts. They say things without thinking about how their words affect us. I've been lucky with my health providers, but I've heard so many crazy stories out there.

I would just relax, everything is so small and early, imagine only 5 weeks! The important is that they found the sacs (CONGRATS!) and "something" in it. They're so tiny, who knows if he made a mistake?

Enjoy you're preggerssssssss!!!!!

And, relax, but don't take a bath, they're not good for our babies ;)

Hi Kris, so sorry you have been given such a fright. Please try to relax, sounds like you are right on schedule as they saw something in the sac.
I had my first US at 6w 1 day, we saw the hearbeats but my embies only measures 6mm approx. By 8 weeks they were 1.5 cm we were always told they were bigger than average for age. Funny how every clinic is different.
I am sat entertaining my 2 while dH gets their bath ready.

Enjoy the experience, having twins is a blessing and fabulous.
good luck

I have the same problem. I'm measuring 4.6mm at what I think would have been 5w6d. I had very good betas early on at 302 and 1376, but then rose only a little with 1610 and 1776. So they ordered the ultrasound to check for location. The sac was there. The people there said congratulations, but I began to worry about the size almost immediately. I'm going back Friday for another ultrasound so we will see what happens.

Good luck to you!

I wouldn't worry too much either. I'm also expecting twins and when I went in for my u/s at 5 weeks 6 days all they saw there where the sacs themselves, not even anything inside them. Your already way ahead of me at 5 weeks 4 1/2 days with sacs that have soemthing in them.
At that visit they reassured me that everything was fine and that it was still early and at the very next u/s at 7 weeks there my babies where with heartbeats and everything.
I am now 5 1/2 months along and my boys are doing just fine. Your going to be just fine too, sweetie. Maybe they implanted late, that could account for the smaller sacs. What's important right now is are your numbers doing what they should. Are they doubling or increasing significatly every 48 hours? If they are, then tell that dummy who got you all worried to keep her mouth shut.
Lots of good thought out to you ::HUGS::

I know its hard not to worry, the same thing happened to me. At 5w4d they told me that the sac was empty and expect to lose it. Then 4 dyas later at 6w there was a heartbeat and I am about to deliver in 9 days. It is way too early and you really should't of even had an ultrasound yet. Hang in there.....

Thanks for all the feedback

Ladies, thanks for the encouraging words regarding my first u/s. I was especially delighted to read SilverAngel679 & Jessica's responses that were so similar to mine. This roller coaster ride we're on is a doozy, not to mention the hormones! I woke up yesterday convinced I was no longer pregnant and by bedtime I was sure that I'm having triplets (when they saw the two sacs, there was a questionable third "thing")! I've decided to try to relax (ha) and enjoy what I know right now. Best of luck to all of you and I will keep you posted.
