Hello all. I'm new to this board and a first time IVF-er. We had the Egg retrieval yesterday and they got 8 eggs out of which 5 have fertilized. My transfer is sat morning and we are able to put back 3 eggs in total. I'm really nervous about the prospect of triplets but don't want to spoil my chances of success by only putting back 2. Does anyone know what the chances of me getting trips out of 3 eggs? I'm 40....

Hi catface,
If your eggs have fertilized they are now little embryos. I put in 4, 1 -10 cell, 2 - 8 cells and 1 - 5 cell. One took and we have a gorgeous baby boy. There have been several similar posts here, search for number of embryos and things like that and you can find a ton of posts with a similar question. It is such a matter of luck also. good luck!!!

Just my two cents worth... We only transferred two embryos in our 1st cycle and only one took; however, that one split twice and created a triplet pregnancy that we lost at 19 weeks. I only mention this because while the number of embryos is a consideration, so is the possiblity of them splitting.

Thanks Riogirl for getting back to me. that's really helpful and i think that we are leaning toward the 3 embryo transfer. I'm so sorry to hear about Baylorbear33's loss. that must'be been really hard for you and your partner. I hope that you've not given up. the fact that you got pregnant on your first cycle must be some small consolation.
Thanks and good wishes to all of us. COME ON the babies!!!

I transfered 3 and got twins ( 3 months old today). Keep in mind that any of the embryos can split. so there is always a chance of twins even with 1.
good luck!

It also depends on whether you are using Assisted hatching, 3 day or 5 day embryos. I was ok with having twins the first time so I was more aggressive. Also due to my age. Now I think I would use assisted hatching and only do 2 embryos. It also depends on the quality of the embryos you get, your doctor should be able to recommend something.
Good Luck!

With my FET recently only one was very good! the others were not bad but OK and my doc made a decision to transfer just that ONE great one and now Im 6 weeks!!....Ive done 6 IVF´s = PG 4 times, 2 ectos + 1 mc twins!! and 3 of the 4 pg´s were 3 emby transfers! ALL GOOD QUALITY! The first time I had only ONE transfer (this recent cycle) which was even a frozen one, looks the most promising! than the others with 3 embies!!.....So it only takes ONE

Hope this helped.....
