Anyone have success w/ Day 5 morulas?

Post by DCRunningMama » Thu Nov 18, 2010 4:59 pm

Hello--

We did a 5 day transfer w/ 1 blastocyst, and 2 morulas. One of the morulas was "hours away from being a blastocyst" according to the embryologist.

Just hoping for a success story...
Me: 33 DH: 37, Low Morphology, DOR
IVF#1 2/08: BFP! 11/08 Healthy Baby
FET #1 5/10: BFN
IVF#2 8/10: BFN, 2 Day 5 blasts
IVF#3 11/10: BFN, 3 Day 5 blasts
IVF#4 2/11:BFN, 2 Day 5 blasts
IVF#5 4-5/11: BFP!!! 2 3-days (7 cell, 8 cell) 5/9=866, 5/11=1595

There have been many successes with embryos like that. That blast should have about a 50% chance of implanting, the morulae around 30% each.

hmm.. don't know what a morala is but i'm assuming it's maybe an 8-cell embie (or less)?

anyways, my son is a 17months old....my IVF miracle.. i also have DOR and hubby also has poor morph.. my son was a 3day transfer. think he was an 8cell.. if not it was 6 cell.

hope that gives you hope!

i've heard girl embies' cell division can be slower...
38 yrs. DOR, TTC since '04, recommended DE but didn't listen

A morula is typically associated with day 4 and is the transition between the cleavage stage (2, 4, 8 cell) and the blastocyst stage. In the morula stage, the embryo becomes compacted and the cells tightly join. It's very difficult to count the cells of a morula because they are indistinct and all look like one uniform mass. On day 5, a cavity forms in the morula, the cavity expands, and the blastocyst forms. During the morula stage, the individual cells worked out a mutual decision of which would form the inner cell mass (later, the fetus) of the blastocyst, and which would become trophectoderm cells (later to become amniotic sac and placenta).

thanks ghost- even though it wasn't my question..i sure appreciate the knowledge you add to the forum :)

i find during a treatment cycle, i only ingest the knowledge i really NEED, as otherwise i get so overwhelmed.. but in between cycles i enjoy learning more about the process. it also helps me be a better self-advocate.
