Ghost.. Quick Question

Post by tryn4#2 » Tue Jun 14, 2011 12:37 pm

My first IVF cycle was Dec 2007. We are now thinking about trying again. I was wondering how long can sperm be frozen and still be "good". If my husband's sperm was frozen in 2007, would it be okay if we had to use it this summer?

Frozen cells are good for many years. I'm not sure anybody has established an upper limit, or if there is one. Frozen embryos have been good after about 20 years.

Keep in mind, they store frozen cells in liquid nitrogen. It's more than 300 (Fahrenheit) degrees colder than your freezer.

So is there a difference in success rates fresh vs frozen sperm?

Little or no difference.

I guess it is a mute point now. I just heard from my doctor and they no longer have his frozen sperm. How long do clinics usually keep it?

Up to each clinic and their description of the service in the consent form you signed.
