Has anyone had IMSI and/or PICSI?

Postby L_ouise » Tue Nov 22, 2011 5:45 pm

Hello,

I am 26 and my husband is 36.

We suffer from severe male factor on all points (cause unknown) and there are no known female factor issues.

His karyotype test came back normal.

We have recently had two failed ICSI cycles. We had a total of 28 mature eggs and only 1 fertilised into a poor grade embryo that did not make it through the 2ww.

The consultants have basically thrown their hands up and said we're stuffed, without any hope of improving our chances.

I did some research and came across both IMSI and PICSI and have been able to find a clinic that is trialling both procedures at the moment so we want to try doing both of them for our next ICSI cycle.

I was just wondering if anyone had used either procedure and if it did or did not make any difference to the amount of fertilisation and decent embryos?

I'm having difficulty finding any actual statistics.

Thanks,
Louise xx

Hi Louise

My DH too has MF, however I also have problems as I produce a low number of eggs and they are fragile.

To give you some background I'm 32 and my husband is 34, we are currently on our 6 IVF attempt, all have been ICSI. Our first four attempts were ISCI only, which gave us really poor quality eggs. We then found out about IMSI and found the CRM clinic in London. With the first cycle of IMSI & ICSI we became pregnant, but it was ectopic. I am now on the 2WW for our second IMSI and I find out next week. I only had two eggs but one was very good quality.

I can’t recommend the CRM Clinic enough, I didn’t realise how different the clinics could be. At times I felt like I was the only patient. The consultant did all my scans, egg collection and egg transfer, the nurses are amazing they always recognised me, using my name without looking at any paperwork ( which is a small thing but make you feel like your not a number). The Consultant I saw was Dr Esfstathios Theodorou and I really cant stress how amazing he has been

Hi Louise,

I'm not sure about these procedures either but I want to second Liv on the difference a clinic can make. DH has severe male factor also (counts as low as 10,000 sperm per sample) and this cycle at CCRM in Denver we have had outstanding success. I have no known issues either and this cycle they retrieved a whopping 29 mature eggs, 24 of which fertilized normally through ICSI. My clinic's lab is top notch and I think that really does make a difference.

Good luck!

I just looked at our embryology report from the lab. They didn't use them for us but apparently both IMSI and PICSI are options with CCRM. You should really check them out!
