post embryo transfer

Postby Kelsey1 » Fri Mar 31, 2006 7:59 pm

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I wouyld like to share my story and ask a bit of advice. I am 39 and my hubby is 38. I have one naturally born child from my previous marriage. she is 15. We have been trying to get pregnant for over 5 years. % failed IUI attempts last year. All tests performed on myself and my husband came back with glowing reports. Unexplained fertility I guess or my age. I feel gereatric in the fertility community. First and probably only IVF cycle in process. I say only because the cost is overwhelming. I had my egg retrieval last Wednesday on March22nd. 10 eggs.. The next day my doctor called me and told me that none of the eggs fertilized. He has no idea why, because my husbands test results were so great. Emergency ICSI was performed and we got 5 to fertilize. My doctor rates the eggs from..excellent,good,fair and poor. 2 of my eggs were fair plus and 3 eggs were good to good minus, whatever that means.... I had all 5 trasnferred on Saterday the 25th. I am a flight attendant and for obvious reasons thought I should stay on the ground during this process of waiting. I rested for about the first 3 days and have been at home doing light chores. Yesterday I started having swollen sore breasts and pinching cramping sensations all afternoon. What does this mean? Is it part of the implantation proess, are the embryos being rejected, or what? I associate cramping pain with my monthly period. Help....anyone have any advice for me?[img][/img]

Sorry to hear your story. Am i right in saying that you had 5 put back in you????

In uk we are only allowed to have 2 sometimes 3 at a push.

i also had cramps and tender brests but was told by the hospital that that was ok.

Best of luck with the results

thanks for your support. Yes, I have 5 average embryos trasplanted. I think it had to do with the quality of the embryos and my age.

Thats a very interesting story. Some of the other Mom-to-Be's have reported the same breast tenderness.. and Cramping feelings.
From what I understand The symptoms of pregnancy are the same as the sypmtoms of Af coming. So its hard to tell.

I am very interested to see what happends with you. You would think out of 5 at least one would hang around!

Hugs to you!

Danielle

Oh also you might want to post in the Age Related forum.. and the April Test day forum! That way we can all cheer for you!

Kelsey, there is not really telling. I real hate to you this, the best medicine is to wait. I know its very hard. I have been there and I had BFN. I wish all the best for you. I had the same symptoms and I got BFN. Some people have the same thing and get BFP. With progestorone your body is going through a lot of things..

Kelsey,
I just started stims and we are expected to do the retrieval next week. But my doc has suggested to do the icsi procedure, yet dh wants natual fertilization to occur. His count is somewhat low at 6 mil. So we are going ahead with just ivf with possible "emergency" icsi". My question to you is... Did they suggest to you to have icsi to begin with? And did they tell you that if they did icsi to begin with the quality of the embryos would be better? Please keep us all updated. Good Luck.

Post embryo Transfer

Postby Sweetness » Sun Apr 02, 2006 1:56 am

Hi Kelsey,

Well I'm not sure you are ar pg or not, I had the same symtoms and came back with a BFN on the 22nd of March. I had three eggs and only one fertilized and was transfered. I'm 37 and my dh is 38, I have two children from a previous marriage, but I had a tubal in 1990 and it can not be repaired. I know what you mean about feeling gereatric in the fertility community, and the cost is so very high. This was our 1st attempt as well, we want to try one more time and are looking for another clinic with cheaper prices. I was told last week at my follow up apt. that I have the egg quality of someone in their late 40's due to endometriosis. Your right also about your age because our eggs age with us and there are not as many "good" eggs as their are bad ones. Your doctor also grades the embryos weird as well. But I guess all doc's have their own way of doing things. 10 eggs is a good number, I had only 9 follicles and out of those 9; 6 were empty. My endo had really depleated my egg supply, it is cruel how the medications, and progesterone shots make you have these symptoms, because you don't know it it is AF or an embryo attaching. Some women experience cramping when that happens, and also my discharge papers after my transfer said that cramping was common as well as sore breasts. I sure hope for your sake you get a BFP, the BFN 'S are the worst ever, it has been a little over a week since I found out and I'm still having a hard time. I only had one though, you had 5 transfered, surely one would stick! It all has to do with embryo quality, and normaly they will not attach if there is something wrong with them. Good Luck to you and your dh, let us know how things turn out...

Hi there - I am sorry to here your story. I know what you are going through during the wait agonizing isn't it. I wanted to just reiterate that its not even differrent between people but different for every IVF. My first IVF in November failed. I had sore boobs and cramps etc - it resulted in BFN. This time same thing (sore boobs and cramps) I was sure AF was coming but its 14dpt and I've done a couple of HPT with positive results. Monday is Beta and hopefully they confirm it and its actually a positive.

Try not to drive yourself crazy with the interpretations and what it means as there is no way to tell. I thnk most of it is the progesterone we take. I also had some spotting on 14days after ER - turns out to likely have been implementation spotting but man was I scared.

Hold on to hope - we are all pulling for you

Kelsey,

Hi again! Thank you for the positive vibes, I need it right now. So you had some spotting? I never did, I actualy herd that is a good sign for it can mean that an embryo is trying to implant. A couple of HPT's that turned out positive as well sure does not hurt hugh? It sounds to me like you are pg, I just know that you have to wait at least 14 days after the trigger shot before you should take a hpt cause the shot is still in your system and can cause a false positive! :x Good luck on Monday I'll be rooting for you, I'll be glad when we can try again. We have a much better chance with a donor egg, and my uterus is fine; but we want to try one more time with my own. Who knows maybe that one good egg is in their just waiting to be used by God. :D We have not given up complete hope yet, but we have to wait a couple of months before our next try. The cost is just so high!

Take care...

Kelsey - I know you have had a lot of responses already but I thought I would let you know that I have had sore breasts and slight cramping for 2 days now - and i haven't even had ET yet! It is my understanding that progesterone can cause those symptoms while your uterine lining thickens.
Hang in there - only a few more days! Hope you get a BFP!!
