calling all donors of embryos

hi there. I am in the most awful of situations. After conceiving two beautiful girls through IVF six years apart and over about 10 years of IVF treatment, we conceived a gorgeous son naturally. We now have 15 embryos which we are unable to use. We are thinking of donating them to a childless couple but are unsure.
To all those who want to receive donated embyros, what would you do if one of them was born disabled?
Also, we'd love to hear from any other couples that have donated embryos in the past. How have you coped? Are you pleased or do you regret your decision?
Please someone help us work our way through the most difficult decision of our lives.

I am not sure how to add my vote to the poll (new to the board). If I were to find out my embryo donated child was disabled, I would not abort. I feel children are a blessing no matter how they come to us. In my eyes they would still be perfect. Whether or not they had 10 fingers and toes. And whether or not they had special/medical needs.

Belle, I hope that you are able to find the answer to your dilemma with your embryos. If you do choose to donate to a childless couple, you should ask them the questions/concerns that you have. I am pretty sure you CAN be selective. I don't know much about embryo donation, I just started researching (my brother and sister-in-law are hoping to possibly start their family via embryo donation) I really think it is only fair that you have a say in who is selected for your embryo donation.

If one of your embryos came out disabled, I would love that child no different than any other child I would have. Children no matter how they come out are beautiful gifts from God. How much are you asking for compensation of your embryos?

Thanks for your comments. I'm not looking for any compenstation. I live in Australia. I just want peace of mind.

my neighbor donated her embryos to a couple and this couple has kids now,they`re from another State and they`re not in touch with them but she`s so happy she did that and she feels she did the right thing,never be afraid to donate,it`s doing good to all parties,good luck in your personal choice.

research our options, we have come across many inspirational stories from donors and embryo adoptees. I never thought that Our life would be filled with such complexities and uncertainties, but I would like to think that there is a purpose for everything.
One day I asked him THE question, "what would you do if after several treatments we become pregnant and the doctor then says that she/he will turn out to be 'special'?" and my hubby simply said, 'then God has a special journey for us all'. It almost made me cry...

Not too long ago...I became a godmother, for the first time, to one of my students and it feels so good. Even though my God daughter has a learning disability, I only see K. not the disability b/c I LOVE her VERY DEARLY.

Me being a special education teacher and my hubby being a firefighter has taught us to serve others, no matter who you are. And now we are caught looking for someone to help us. And we have lots of hope that that day will come.
