Question for Ghost (or anyone) about immune issues

Postby Grey » Fri Jan 25, 2008 11:34 am

I'll try to make my long story relatively short:

We've been TTC nearly 4 years, with 4 failed IUIs. Our first IVF in August 2007 was successful, but I had a missed miscarriage that was found at 11 weeks.

After the miscarriage, I desperately wanted a reason, and asked my RE to do some testing for immune factors. I have an autoimmune disorder, ankylosing spondylitis, which for me is fortunately very mild and mostly just an occasional nuisance. I also have a history of lupus in my extended family (paternal great-aunt). I've always wondered if my infertility might be related to immune issues.

I also had to have a D&C, and we were able to have karyotyping done. That's where I found the reason for the M/C: the baby had Trisomy 13. I started to worry less about immune factors playing a role.

I did get the results back from the immune testing, and everything was in the normal range, with one exception: my IgM and IgG antibody levels were slightly elevated. According to my RE, 10-19 is considered the "low positive" range; my IgM was 11 and my IgG was 10. He said he was personally not concerned since we had found a reason for my M/C and because the levels were so very close to normal. But he did say I could get retested if I wanted to.

Should I be concerned? I'm inclined not to worry about it, but if anyone feels retesting would be called for, I'm willing to do it. If it matters, we're planning on starting Lupron for IVF #2 in late February.

Thanks in advance for any replies!
