IUI

Postby SDtrying » Sun Feb 24, 2008 3:49 pm

Thanks for the feedback, mkdig. Finances are definitely a concern. I've read some of the posts of people on the board and am really happy for those people who have insurance coverage for this stuff. What's the price difference? I'll send you conception/implantation vibes for your 6th round! I was thinking about going straight to IVF to save on total cost, because I'd read that many woman end up going that route in the enf. But hearing success stories makes me want to try it.

My repro doc said that if I wanted to be monitored on clomid, I could, but I opted not to. I didn't think it would improve our chances in any way. Is there a benefit in your opinion, mkdig? Our fertility problem is likely because I only have one working tube, the other tube has some unexplained anatomical defect. But other than that there nothing else has turned up on our work-up.

Keep those success stories comin'! I really appreciate them.

Well we have no insurance coverage for any of the procedures....bummer. Our iui's are about 600 per cycle (including meds and ultrasounds). I just got the paperwork on our ivf cycle and it looks like it is going to be about 1,600 before meds which run about 3,000-4,000  scary!! But our clinic mentioned something about the possibility of being in a research study which might cut the costs if we are eligable. I guess we will find out soon enough when we test for results from this iui.
I guess the only real benefit from monitoring with the clomid would be that you would know how you are responding and how many follicles you are getting, etc. Are you doing opk's so you know when you O?
Ive seen lots of girls on the iui sites who are there b/c they have only one tube that is working. And I have heard success stories from them!
I know what you mean, now I wish I had the money back from the failed iui's to put toward ivf, but I guess you never know unless you try!
When will you meet with your re? You must be anxious to know what she will recommend. The emotional investment will all the failed iui's has been really tough too! The success rates are so much better with ivf its tempting to go right for it if you can! Let me know what she says! Good Luck.

Thanks for the info MKdig. I haven't been monitoring during clomid. Do you think that the monitoring is valuable? My doc offered it, but I didn't do it because I figured I need to save all my pennies for IVF if we need it. That's one of the reasons I didn't want to spend the money on IUI. But I really don't know what to do, this is all new to me.

I know many of the people on the board have been dealing with this issue for years. I am curious whether or not it gets harder or easier with time. Since my DH an dI have only been trying for a little over a year, I'm still in shock that we aren't getting pregnant quickly like all my friends.

Sometimes I try to convince myself that a life with kids could be great, I'll travel, etc......but then my womb and home feels empty.....will this get better or likely worse.........

Thats a great question, Im sure its different for everyone. For me dealing with IF is always up and down. Some days Im really sad about it and some days Im ok. There is no doubt it is hard. Us IF girls sure learn to be tough. I dont know about the monitoring on clomid. The only reason I would want to do it is to see how many follicles Im getting, that way if I wasnt getting much of a response they could adjust the dosage. Good Luck

thanks again MK, you are right, i'm sure we're all different. But just as you say, all of us are pretty tough! I wish I would have found this site early, I didn't even know that adjusting the dose would be in order. I wish my RE had said something. I asked her "would the u/s change anything that we do." and she said,no but some women are curious. Curiosity didn't seem a reasons to spend the extra money. Hmmmm, I really liked by RE and have had several friends recommend her. I wish that she'd told me about that.....well again, thank you. And also, I forgot to answer your other questions, yes i've been using OPK (i have to use the digit ones, because the lines are impossible!)

With your feedback, I decided to call the office and move up my appt. Next one is now on March 21st.

Anyway 'nuf about me, what about you? When is your next appt? Forgive me, I'm having a little difficulty navigating the site to follow everything. Am I correct that you are still in waiting this month after an IUI or are you just waiting for your appt to do ahead with IVF?

I am still waiting for results from this iui. I will test Sunday....this is the longest two weeks ever. I have an appointment in two weeks to talk about ivf because I am just so convinced that will be next. Its really hard to stay positive during the 2ww when you have seen five bfn's, you know? I guess stranger things have happened though. (Im on another forum also and one girl on there got her bfp after 13 iui's!!!).
How about you? where are you in your cycle? are you waiting to test or still taking clomid? How much are you taking? Did your re do blood tests etc before putting you on clomid? Sorry I know I ask a lot of questions! :)

The 2ww is miserable!! I agree it's hard to stay positive, but really I don't believe in all the popular self-help stuff about being about to "will" what we want to happen. Sorry, if anyone here does, no offense meant. So I think its important to stay hopeful for our own mental health, but I think preparing for the next plan helps me more than thinking about getting a BFP. Just my opinion. (But I do think its fun to send fertility vibes and baby dust to our others on the board! its more fun to think I can "will" others to get pregnant than myself :D ) I will send you all the vibes I've got!

Today is Day 15 for me (just had OPK + yesterday)--> baby dancing tonight!! Will hope AF doesn't show on March 9th, but she's never been late in the past so I'm with you about expecting her to arrive. I had blood work before clomid, RE said everything was nl. My HSG was abnormal with "rounded" fimbriae on the right (apparently I'm not a good egg-catcher on that side). My DH has poor morphology, but good motility and numbers. My U/S also showed good follicle production which matched my lining appropriately (this was done prior to clomid)

I'm stunned by the girl who got the the BFP after 13 IUI's! wow! I'm so inpatient, I don't think I could do it. Well let's stay in touch, so we can get you through sanely until Sunday! Regardless of the results, I always remind myself, I'm one step closer to a baby! I know in my heart I will have children in my life, but unfortunately no one consulted me regarding the timing!

You sound so much like me I cant believe it! I have a hard time believing that it will work actually makes it work too. I think whatever is going to happen is going to happen. I think its good to stay positive but I dont think it really affects the outcome. I am always focused on what to do next. Sort of a prepare for the worst outlook. (drives my husband crazy).
One other thing I thought of. It might be a good idea to get an ultrasound while taking to clomid to check your lining while on it. It can cause some womens lining to thin (mine hasnt and I dont think it does in most cases) but if it did do that it might be better to know so you wouldnt keep trying with it if you didnt respond well to it. Just a thought. Im sure you'll do well with it. Im just always paranoid about how its working when Im on it. Did you have many side effects? I didnt, but some women say they get really moody.

HA! LOL, my DH have the same dynamic! He like to take one thing at a time and used to get annoyed when I was investigating IVF, but I think he's finally starting to see that nature's course ain't workin' for us.

I think you are absolutely right about getting the U/S while on clomid, I REALLY wish that my RE would have discussed this with me!! Well, I guess we'd already had an hour long appt, so I guess I shouldn't be so critical. I did however get an appt so I can have an U/S right before I ovulate next cycle. That's the best time right?

I'll be thinkin' of you. Perhaps we can think positive for each other! :D

Regarding side effects of clomid, I had some. The 1st month was the worst, I was an eating machine...anything in sight! Then the crabbiness began and then the hot flashes were the icing on the cake. Luckily, this go round, hasn't been bad at all. Just hot flashes, really there not that bothersome, sometimes it's actually funny. If I'm home mid-day I'll just strip of my pants for about 10 minutes til it passes. DH finds it entertaining!

I do think right before you are supposed to ovulate is the best time for an ultrasound. I usually go on day 12 or13. I'm sure you'll just see that everything is going along smoothly but it'll make you feel better and know if the clomid is working for ya or not! Good luck. I get the hot flashes from it too but I guess it could be worse. Im starting to get anxious about testing sunday. The second week is the worst.
Yes, we will think positive for each other. Its much easier to be encouraging for someone else isnt it?

Count down to Sunday!!! The 2nd week is definitely a lot harder. But I will give you all the positive thoughts I can!! Just think, no matter what we're always one step closer to having a baby. The vast majority of us will eventually succeed, so each day we keep at our POAS, OPKs, and BD'ing we are one step closer. Rather than focusing on each test, let's just think that we're jumping through the next hoop to get where we want to be.

Baby dust to you! I'll check in with ya each day to get you through to Sunday.

I don't know if I'll test. For the last two month, I just waited for AF show up (and she did-- she's the most punctual of all my relatives and reliable of all my dear relatives!) I was on a stretch where I was spending way too much money of pregnancy tests. I like the ones that are digital and say pregnant or not pregnant. I can't tell you how my times, I've worked myself up into imagining a line that is not there.

I'll just expect AF and instead I'll get excited for my next appt with the RE which is March 21st. I'm very excited about that. I'm looking forward to finding out if everything is going okay on clomid. Mostly I'm hoping that she says that we can start IVF. I'd really like to get a cycle or two in before I have to start working more hours in September.

How about you? If things don't work out this month will you start IVF right away? It sounds like a big time commitment and getting shots is not on my top 10 list of things I wanted to do before I die!

Only 3 full days left 'til Sunday!

I know what you mean about the shots, sooo not fun. But we will do what we have to. I wouldn't mind just waiting to see if af comes but I know if it came while I was at work or something I'd loose it. At least by testing I can control when and where I find out, you know. But I get so freakin anxious about testing, I always feel like Im gonna puke.
So if its bfn we are going to meet with our re and take march off (I have to go away for work for a week so I would kind of have to take off). So I guess we'll do whatever we can then. A lot of re's put women on the pill for a month before ivf so I guess I'll do that in March and be ready to go in April. I think more than anything Im stressed about having to take so much time off...my job is NOT understanding about time off but of course having a family is more important than the job.
Well hopefully you wont have to worry about another cycle but if you do keep me posted on how the ultrasound goes. When is af expected?
