High FSH and/or Low AMH anyone?

Postby BabyJazz » Fri Dec 18, 2009 8:14 am

I am 38, single, and decided to become a single mom. I thought coming to that decision would be the hardest part. I am "younger than my years" and "healthier than a horse" according to my regular doctor. I have never tried to get pregnant so I went into my followup appt with the RE anxious to hear next steps. I was not ready to hear that donor egg was the way to go. My FSH was 17.3 and my AMH was 0.2. Is there anyone out there that is or has been in the same situation? I want to try IUI a few times. I would even want to try IVF with my own eggs before considering donor eggs. Please share your honest thoughts.

Hi VCR,

Guess what! I have a perfect 4 month old son! He was conceived over last New Years Eve weekend and born late September. I had a known donor lined up. After reading the book "Inconceivable" about a woman's fight against high FSH and many other findings on the Internet, I figured my chances were just as good (or bad) naturally. I was still lined up for tests and procedures with a second RE, but my known donor and I decided we'd try "the old fashion way" as well. Success on our first attempt! High FSH, low AMH, and all! The first RE thought the clomid challenge (done in November) may have jumped started my ovaries. Who knows! December's period was late (before i was very regular) and lasted just one day. The second RE had put me on a low dosage estrogen patch days before Christmas. Again, my LO was conceived over new years. OPK and my body basal temps indicate that I ovulated around January 4th. Good Luck! Know that many women have had our numbers and worse and went on to have biological children!
