Tuesday June 6, at 3:00 am my water broke. However, no labour or contractions, so I woke Shawn up then told him to go back to sleep. We had a leisurely morning, and enjoyed breakfast with the girls. We then called Grandma, to look after the girls. We headed up to the hospital around 9 am. Still not a whole lot of contractions ~ but they confirmed that my water had indeed ruptured. We got up, walked around, enjoyed a lunch at Tim Hortons. A few more contractions, but definitely not labour. By 2:00 the doctors were recommending inducing labour, so we began with the IV. I held out the good fight until 5:00 pm, then opted for the epidural...whew. Thank goodness, that relieved most of the pain. Labour continued on until about 9:00, and at that point I was feeling things again, and it was almost time to go. I went from measuring 6 cm when the nurse checked to feeling the need to push almost immediately. At 10 cm, and pushing. The nurse paged for the doctors, unfortunately they were in the ER, and the dr. On call was still at home. So they said stop... yeah right. The doctor and resident from the ER rushed in just in time as Ivy Sianna was ready to be born. 10:14 pm and she was here. Eyes open right from the beginning. After her initial squawking, she was very calm, just checking out her surroundings. She nursed like a champ within the first half hour of life. All in all, much easier than my twin delivery. It was quicker, less painful, not a crowd in the delivery room, and recovery has been going much quicker. So other than being tired and a little sore, our family is adjusting to its newest member.
