Feeling your Babies move

Postby Helen G » Tue Jun 17, 2003 10:33 am

I'm 18 weeks today and STILL can't feel my babies moving (I've just been to the doctors and heard their heartbeats so I'm not worried as such but it is driving me mad!).

Out of curiosity, when did you first start to feel your baby/ies moving?? I've read it can be anything up to 20 weeks but I don't want to wait that long!! :)

Any tips gratefully received!

Helenxx

Feeling your Babies move

Hi Helen
I was about 18/19 weeks. It wasn't a gradual thing ...one day there was nothing the next a feeling of air bubbles or a trapped nerve that you can't quite put your finger on. One of the tips my midwife gave us at our antenatal is to lie quietly and relax and drink a can of ice-cold fizzy drink to see if you can get a reaction. I really wouldn't worry though, all the books say it can take up to 20/22 weeks to feel the movement especially for first time mums. As long as the heartbeats are strong and healthy which you've had confirmed then take comfort.
Good Luck
Terri
xxx
Feeling your Babies move

Postby Jules R » Tue Jun 17, 2003 3:27 pm

Hi Helen

I know you won't want to hear this, but I didn't feel any movement until 21 weeks. I started to get a bit stressed because from about 15 weeks, people were constantly asking me if I'd felt them move yet - other people are so helpful, not! As it was, I very rarely ever felt my son move because my darling daughter took up most of the space so he was squashed up against my bladder! Luckily he'd have at least one attack of hiccups a day and I'd feel those. But you may well have your 20 week scan before you feel them move - sorry.

Jules
Feeling your Babies move

Hi Helen

I felt mine move at only 16 weeks but they say if you've had a baby before, you notice movements sooner because you know what they feel like, so that's probably why I felt them so early.

Now, at 22 weeks, they are really booting me quite hard (no mistaking it) - you can see my tummy moving as well, so don't worry, you'll soon be feeling them all the time!

Obviously if you've heard the heartbeats anyway, there's nothing to worry about.

Good luck for your 20 week scan next week.

Luv Rachel X
