12 week scan

Postby rachel r » Tue Aug 19, 2003 7:43 pm

Hi everyone

Hope you're all well.

We had our 12 week/nuchal scan yesterday. I was so nervous but luckily we'd booked a 9.00am appointment so it meant we could get up and go and not have to wait around and get into a state. Herbie was leaping around, waving his little arms in the air and I couldn't believe the difference to when we saw him at 7 weeks. Yesterday he looked like a real baby and it made me finally feel really pregnant. The ultrasonographer took ages taking the measurements and kept having to prod Herbie to get him into position. I thought DH was going to have a go at her for disturbing him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My age risk (im 28) was 1:767 but the actual risk came back at 1:5000 and she said it couldn't get much better than that. Obviously, we could be that 1, but we're really pleased with the result. She said his skull and brain are formed properly and he has two hands and two feet which is a bonus! and we finally got piccies which either one of us has been clutching all the time since we left the hospital. He looks so cute!!

Now our next dilemma is whether to find out the sex. my parents and everyone I work with say I shouldn't because life has so few surprises etc etc, but we kind of want to know, on the basis that we feel we can start to bond etc (and also that when the Next christmas sale is on, I can get there at 5.00am and start throwing appropriately coloured clothes in a bin bag and save a fortune!) What;s everyone else's views?

LOL

Rachel
x

12 week scan

Rachel

so exciting isn't it - I am 37 or was the day before my nuchal and the risk went from 1:67 to 1:694 which I was pleased about - can't can't get much better for my age I think. You must be thrilled. I know I was worried about the nuchal and if baby still there etc - you know the things.... ours was at 9am on a monday. It felt like you, so much more real. Now waiting for the 20 week scan and heard the heartbeat for the first time on Monday just gone - that is another amazing moment.
We have decided to ask about the sex in the 20 week scan. It was something we would like to know. If they can't see it then it is not the end of the world. They had to prod the baby around to get my nuchal too! I actually bought some herbie baby suits yesterday - just a pack of 2 when I was in mothercare - how decadent but I couldn't resist - the yellow colour.
Take care and keep us posted and well done. Enjoy!
Love
Tracey
xxx

Hi Rachel

What a milestone you've reached. That first scan is so fantastic - as you say, it's amazing how much they grow in a few weeks. Glad Herbie looked OK!

We found out the sex. Like you, we thought it would help us bond more with the babies. It's up to you though, difficult one?!

take care.

Helen xx
