Hi everyone,

Went for another scan today and we discovered that one of the embryos has not developed and so we had 1 heart beat and normal size etc. Although I was anxious about having twins ( i am 39), I was also getting adjusted to this and now am really sad..
The stopped embryo apparently gets reabsorbed and the rest carries on normally.
Has anyone else had this happen to them and what effects did it have ?

Well, at least we had 2 and one is growing

X
Susi

Ah Susie I'm so sorry to read your news. What an awful thing to happen when you've known about your twins and looked forward to welcoming and loving them both. You must really be feeling a great loss.

You look after yourselves and your little one. Lots of Love, Jo.XX

Susi

I am very sorry to hear the news - I know of others it has happened to and it just does reabsorb - the other twin will know nothing about this at all - it is rather like when just one stops developing and that reabsorbs too.
It is awful news but I am sure you will go on to be strong for your other twin and in some way this was not the time for the other twin and it has gone on elsewhere to give its brother or sister a life.
Take special care
Love
Tracey
xxxx

Dear Susi,

I just wanted you know that I fully understand what your going through, as the same thing happended to me. Like you I was abit unsure about having twins, but I soon came round to the idea and was so looking forward to my babies arriving. When we went for our scan they told me the same as you that one embryo had reaborbed in my boby and the other one was doing nicely. To be honest this made me fell abit ill to begin with and I found it quite difficult as I was looking forward to the two.. But after a while the pain goes and I looked forward to my baby arriving whom is now 8 months old and is really beautful, so try and relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

Love Rachie xxxx

Susi,

so sorry about your loss, I found out after I had my kids that at least two of my friends had this happen to them, and it is apparantly quite common, but as we scan so early that is why we know it is two and most folk never know. (god that sounds garbled,,,sorry)

It must be so strange to be celebrating and commiserating at the same time. Try to take care of you and rest.

Big Hug
Nicky

Suzi,

So, so sorry to hear the news - what a shock. You've prepared me for something I hadn't really let myself think about (my 9wk scan is tomorrow). All I can say is that's a huge relief that the other one is fine, please count your blessings.

Things will be a lot less complicated with one, so maybe it was for the best. (Deep down I'm very worried about the twins aspect, I never thought it would happen to me and I'm not the most physically robust of people, so constantly wonder how on earth I'm going to cope with the pregnancy, not to mention everything afterwards).

You take it easy now.

Nicola x

i really dont want to offend anyone, but nicolam i think that was a really insensitive thing to say :"Things will be a lot less complicated with one, so maybe it was for the best". losing a baby is never for the best, when i lost my baby, i got that from a lot of people, and that hurt more than anything, and it took a long time for me to get over. suzi i am so sorry for your loss, and for the baby who will never know how much it was loved and wanted, look after yourself and the precious baby whos still inside you. again sorry if i offended anyone.

Susi

I just to add that I too am sorry you've lost one of your little ones. It's amazing how quickly we attach ourselves to our babies - even at this early stage. I hope your other little one makes up for some of the pain.

LOL Helenxx

Well Suzi - spookily we're in the same boat - the very same thing has happened to me. The little one wasn't there anymore, but thankfully the other was the right size and we even saw it moving its arms and legs.

I'm sorry I offended you Kerry or anyone else, but I don't take it back. This business is full of pitfalls and I think the only way to get through it is to look at the positives wherever you can. Of course I'm really sad that one didn't make it for Suzi as well as me, but it was just not meant to be. You've quite upset me Kerry so if I did offend anyone then I've got my desserts.

Nicola

Sorry, me again. I want to say that my previous email sounded really harsh but I was so shocked and mortified that I might have upset anyone, I lashed out defensively . It's the last thing I would want to do to anyone on this site, we've all been through so much. I'm truly sorry and only meant to encourage Suzi to keep positive and think about the perfect little one she does have. The people out there that do have twins and are bounding along happily, I'm so happy for - you are so lucky.

I think I may take a break from this site a bit, I'm going to be so worried I might put my size 9's in it!

All the best to everyone
Nicola.
