20 week scan at last

Post by nicolam » Mon Nov 24, 2003 2:15 pm

Just had to report that I had my 20 week scan this morning and everything was just fine. Just amazing to see its little face - had its gob open quite a lot of the time(!?) but thankfully it no longer looked like Homer - as at 11.5weeks... Bit disappointed that the policy at our NHS hospital is not to reveal the sex, we were really looking forward to that. So the name-finding conundrum will be doubly as hard.

It seems so strange that I won't need any more scans till much later on now as I'm deemed 'normal'. Well that's what the midwife said. After everything we've all been through it's so hard getting used to being thought of as normal!!! I doubt that any of us will ever get over the absolute miracle of it all though - maybe that is the one positive thing about having had to go through all this.

I've also been making my life more complicated by handing my notice in at work. I've not been that happy here for a while so thought I should take a fantastic opportunity I've been given to join somewhere else, so will at least have a few months to get settled. Think it's pretty definite I'll have to return after maternity leave (DH is self-employed and I just can't see it working with me being off). So it's been a stressful couple of weeks, but I can't wait to join the new place soon. Can't believe how life can just turn from being so awful to so positive and hopeful.

Enough of my rambling, now we're over that 20week hurdle we're going to try to relax and start enjoying this pregnancy. And for the first time in years - like many of you - can't wait till Christmas!

Nicola x
(20weeks 3days)

Nicola, I understand so well what you're saying I feel exactly the same. So many Christmas's have gone by when you feel just at rock bottom but have to smile and be jolly - this year is going to be so different for us, but I'm so aware of those for whom it will be a sad and for some, unbearable time.

The 20 week scan is just amazing isnt it? We were told that our baby is a little girl which has made it all the more exciting but just think how exciting it will be for you on the day when they give you that news "it's a ............"

Like you, I'll never get over how lucky we've been - I used to think "why us?" over the misfortune of infertility ....... now I often think the same thing only along the lines of why have we been chosen to receive such good fortune. One things for sure, none of us will ever take it for granted.

Glad it's all going well with you - I'm at 24 weeks and Alice (we've picked her name too!) is kicking all the time its fantastic.

Lots of Love - Jo. Hi There Nicola

Just want to say that I am glad your scan went well, its just amazing to see your little baby on the scan isn't it? The thing is it just gets better with the movements etc, admittenly sometimes mine do come sharp under my ribs but I love being pregnant and just count my lucky stars that it happened to me. I don't know what I am having but this is my own choice I just want it to be a surprise and as time is going on I just can't wait to meet my little miracle.

Love
Shell.
31wks 4d pg
xx

So nice to get your replies - I've been a bit slack participating on this site as I don't come on every day and there's always so much to catch up on.

Re. the bump - I did go through a phase during weeks 15-19 of being really worried as it wasn't very big, but I now actually feel like it shows properly now - I even wore my 'Simon Cowell' high waister jeans from Bloomin Marvellous yesterday, had the elastic bit pulled in quite a bit, but it felt really comfortable.

I wasn't very big to start with and did lose weight at the beginning because I couldn't face eating, but the weight has crept on slowly -without me eating loads more than normal. I remember the doctor saying that the baby will take everything it needs from you, if anyone suffers it will be you first.

Jo, I recall you saying you saw some little kicks and I was so surprised you could see it that early, but lo and behold I saw a little movement last week (and managed to get DH to feel it too - he was so excited). I seem to get the most activity in the evenings when I'm watching TV.

So you go from worrying about the size of the bump, to the number of movements. It just never ends .......!

Nicola x
