Well ladies... It appears that we have a jumbo baby. I passed both the 1 hour and 3 hour gestational diabetes tests (they gave me the 3 hour because I had a passing but elevated 1 hour). The MFM doctor is going to continue to monitor Mr. Baby's size which hasn't slowed down but is steady and stable. The doctor said that it's possible that his growth will slow at some point and as long as he stays under 9lbs, we can go to term with a vaginal delivery. If Mr. Baby gets bigger than 9lbs, we will have to have the conversation about early delivery (boo, hiss, do not want).

Barbara - my boy is a huge linebacker too! My doc doubts I will make it to 40 weeks and wants me to seriously consider stopping work at 36 weeks. I was planning to work up until 38 weeks. At my 34 week appointment my baby was measuring over 6lbs and ahead by 2 weeks. It's so crazy!!

Did your doctor give any reason why he's so big? Most of the men in my family and my husband's family are over 6 feet tall; our doctor said this might be why the baby is so large.

Also, are they talking about letting you go to term or are they thinking about delivering early?

My DH is 6 feet tall, so the doc thinks the baby may be long which is adding to his weight. In terms of letting me go to term, he is going to let me keep going as long as I do not start to have any issues such as excessive swelling or increase in blood pressure. So far I have had neither. I am short so he is concerned that carrying such a big baby will take its toll on my joints which is why he thinks I should stop working in the next 2 weeks. My mom keeps reminding me that these are just weight estimates and often they are off by a pound or two. Either way I am going to fight to go to term as long as I feel OK. The doc said the decision is ultimately up to me but not to get worried yet since it is still so early.

Welcome to the newcomers - it's nice to see some regular activity on this board now that there are a few more faces!

Wow - some big babies cooking here - that is great! Hang in there ladies ;)

Ester - Congrats again! Great story - thanks for sharing! Sounds like things went fairly smoothly for you - I'm glad to hear both babies are home and doing well. Looking forward to seeing some pix of these babies :) :) How are you doing? Getting my rest?

Any word from the other triplet mamas? It's been a while since we have heard from them. Hope all is well!

AFM - I'm doing pretty well - just getting VERY big! I'm just over 25 weeks now and my belly has surpassed my sister's and she is due in 4 weeks!!! I've also been getting crazy leg cramps - especially in the middle of the night! I had my massage therapist work on my calves this morning - hoping that will help. Our nursery is coming together nicely - getting closer to being ready everyday! Today our crib mattress arrives - I just ordered one for now to make sure it fits and works ok with our crib. Assuming all is well, we will order the other two - no major hurry though since we will probably start them off sleeping together anyways. I go in Monday for my next appointment and for the glucose test - wish me luck!! We have also starting meeting possible nannies to help out when I do have to go back to work - so far there are 2 that we like and a few more that I am planning to meet in the next week or two. I'm really hoping one of them will work out. Anyone have special tips on what to ask or look for in a nanny?

Julia - hope you have stopped spotting. I FINALLY seem to have stopped from my last bleed which was over 2 weeks ago. How are you feeling? I'm well now other than heartburn and hemorrhoids. And swollen ankles. I seem to have every possible symptom this round.

tuffy - You seem to be luckier than me with the heartburn. It is constant and can be miserable. DD had some fluid on her kidney after birth and it turned out to be no biggie.

Ester - thanks so much for sharing your story. I too had eaten prior to my c-section (they gave me meds to counteract) and was extremely anxious about the spinal block. DD was in the NICU for 10 days so I know how rough that part of it is as well. Hope you are enjoying the little ones!

Barb - glad you just have a big guy. I don't blame you a bit about not wanting an early delivery. And I had a friend who delivered a nearly 10 pound baby vaginally. Gulp!

Felicia - so you should be done with work soon then?

kbillsy - How was the glucose test? We need to look into nannies as well.

AFM - good scan on Tuesday. We got confirmation and pictures that we are having a boy and a girl. The tech commented on how much the boy moves, which I've noticed ever since I could start feeling movement. He's kicking me in my hip as I type. I have a feeling we'll be chasing after this one! I went home with the drink for the glucose test at 24 weeks. Yuck. Sure hope I pass that as I have certainly been craving sweets. I'm starting to look into shoes for summer as my feet are too puffy to fit into most of the ones that I have.

Much love to you all.

Hi all

There's lots of familiar names on the board. :)

I'm almost 9 wks pregnant and due on 17 Dec - a few days before Anna. I didn't join on e of thhe IVF boards during my last cycle. Not sure exactly why. A bit of a mix of wanting to do it on my own and not make a big fuss about it. Odd I know. it's almost like I experiment with my emotions every time I do a cycle to see what works best for me. Haven't figured it out by the way.

Had my first ultrasound a week or so ago and there's one little bean with a strong heartbeat.

As you know IVF is all about jumping hurdles to hopefully, eventually reach the finish line. DH and I still have one big hurdle to jump i.e. we need to find out whether our baby is affected by a genetic disorder called Meckel-Gruber syndrome. Our last baby was medically terminated at 19 weeks as he had unsurvivable abnormalities that we later found out were a result of MGS. Unfortunately the syndrome is associated with many different genes so testing each gene is very costly and not an option for us. So now, we wait until early to mid second trimester to find out by u/s whether or not our baby is affected. MGS is a recessive disorder so there's a 1:4 chance that the baby will be affected or rather a 75% chance that he/she will not be affected.

So it's a funny old time for me at the moment. Whilst I'm incredibly excited to be pregnant. I'm also a little terrified of what may lay ahead.

Anyway ladies, enough about me. I haven't had time to catch up on all the personals but will do.

Tess. Good luck on your test!!! I think your chances are good! Can't wait to get passes that. How many weeks do you have to go still? I was on pins and needles for my genetic tests as well. Had to wait til lithe 2nd semester, too because of the vanishing twin.
