Just wandering...

Post by Leanne » Wed Apr 27, 2005 7:58 pm

Hi ladies, not lucky enough to join you yet.

I was just wandering ( sorry if this has already been asked) do any of you have any specific advice? Is there anything you would swear by or feel you did differently to get +tive?

I know crazy question, sounds desperate but worth asking surely???

Congratulations to you all anyway and hope you have many many more ladies joining you soon xxx

Leanne

I had a good think about what I could possibly tell you but as I'm sure you've heard before - this whole journey is a lottery.

I don't know what stage you're at but my advice is to relax as much as you can, take one step at a time and try to focus on the positive.

I had my EC on a Wednesday ( 7 eggs collected and fertilised ), ET two days later on the Friday and went back to work 5 days later on the Wednesday. Saying that, some ladies opt to take the whole 2ww off work. I tried to take my consultants advice to just carry on with life as normal ( easier said than done ) and went for the ' let's leave it in the hands of fate ' and ' if it's meant to be it's meant to be ' approach.

That's how I dealt with it but everyone should choose their own way. Listen to the advice from your clinic, listen to what your body is telling you and listen to your instincts. Ask as many questions as you need to ask and try to stay positive.

I hope this helps a bit. You'll meet lots of people on these boards who will help you as you go along so you're in the right place when it comes to support and understanding.

Wishing you all the very, very best - hope you'll be posting over here very soon

Hi Leanne

i am one of the luckier ones as i have only had to go through this journey the once - but in saying that I am also a testiment to the fact that it can happen first time over, so..................

i can only tell you what worked for me, which was having a healthy positive attitude towards the whole thing. My EC was ona tuesday and my ET was 2 days later. and the only thing i did during the 2ww was treat myself as if i was pregnant. Clinics often give lots of different advice about heat and baths and sex and stuff (one clinic i have heard on here even advised u eat something red at least once a day!! :? ), so listen to yours. well my clinic said nothing except rest as much as you feel you need (they signed me off for 2 weeks!), no housework or heavy lifting and abstain from sex for 2 weeks, and also treat your body (dietary habits etc) as if u r pregnant. so i also chose to stay away from alcohol and caffeine except for choc, which i couldnt seem to get enough of.

like Kim says, do what your body tells you, we are all of us different, and stick to this board - it WILL help you through those 2 weeks.

Good luck :D

Hello there - havent been on for a while - if I could give you any advice its to try and relax! Ha ha!
I did ICSI twice first time I didnt drink, stopped exercising took chinese tea, acupunsture, reflexology etc etc and it didnt work!
Second time I had the odd glass of wine, carried on with life as normally as possible, did no chinese meds or reflexology (although I did LOVE the latter) and it worked! I did put my feet up for a few days after the ET though. 9 months later we have a beautiful baby girl!
All the best - I think its really out of your hands to be honest - just try to keep things realtively normal. Easier said than done I know

Thanks, this post has been helpful for me too. It seems we should listen to advice, listen to our own bodies, have a positive outlook and try to relax. Mind over matter is very important, I think.

Hi girls, just adding my 2 pennorth here - wandering myself!! Our first IVF/ICSI failed, but our second worked and my lovely miracle baby boy Jay is now 15 months old, and I give thanks for him and for being so lucky every day. I approached my second go quite differently, so this is what I did - I'm not sure what worked , but mental attitude had a lot to do with it I think.

I'm not Catholic,, but did a Novena during the 2WW
Feng shui - I planted a red fushia in the west of my garden and kept crystals in the west of my lounge.
Every day during the 2ww - I did affirmations - the important thing is to have the affirmation based on the present - ie 'I now allow myself to become pregnant. This cycle of IVF has worked and I am pregnant.' That sort of thing.
I had acupuncture from a chinese lady before egg harvesting and embryo transfer
Every day during the 2ww I kept visualising myself and DH with a healthy. happy baby.
I also asked my angels for help, and said a lot of prayers to God and the angels.

This may sound odd but I believe that what you put out to the Universe comes to you, so if you affirm and visualise that the IVF has worked, that you are pregnant, that the next hospital visit will be for a scan to see your baby, then that energy is attracted back to you. I believe htat that's why people who say they're unlucky in life tend to attract bad luck. Does that make sense??

Hope this helps, and best of luck - if you believe it is true, it will be.
love Sally xxxx
Me - severe endo, DH - poor sperm. First IVF ICSI Nov 02 neg. Second IVF/ICSI May 03 Positive.

Well I was blessed with Alex through our 1st attempt at ICSI

1. Drink 2 litres of water a day.

2. Eat sensible.

3. No heavy Lifting.

4. No baths just showers after ET I didn't have a bath until I found out if It had worked I just showered.

5. I stayed away from sex also for a couple of weeks.

I hope all goes well.

oops just got cut off so there may be half a sentence from me before!!

Thank you all so much for replying. I have only just got back on the board so sorry for my delay.

We are on our 4th attempt ( 1 fresh, 2 frozen ivf). I have had a different attitude to all 3, the 1st I kind of hoped it would work but would be shocked, the 2nd I thought no this is just a stepping stone and don't think about it ,the 3rd I was totally convinced it had worked. I found that by being so convinced it had worked led to an unbelievable let down. That was a really hard time for us.

My hospital said they had done tests on patients where they had 1/2 stay in hospital and even have the bed pan brought to them and the other 1/2 go home and act "normal" they said there was no evidence to prove either way. They now recommend acting normal but sensible, again it is out of hands really.

this time I will focus on pma again but be realistic, we are not telling people this time as I have always found that the hardset part is telling people when it hasn't worked. Also if/ when (pma) it does work it will be a fantastic surprise. We have told my boss so we can get time off and understanding. I am taking a couple of days off work then going in and doing light duties ( no playground supervision - lol).

Thank you all for your advice and congratulations on all the sucess stories x

Hi all

I just wanted to say thanks again - this advice has been really helpful. I am just about to start my next treatment and although anxious about it all I feel more positive about things because the new hospital we are using have discovered the problem.

I had the immunology test and they found out that I have high levels of NK Cells which explains the miscarriages. I am having a hysteroscopy on Saturday and then, that permitting, it's full steam ahead.

Eeek - new hospital, new style of treatment, new start - fingers crossed :!:

Thanks shell for your kind words.

litttle P. good luck sat.
I read somewhere that if you were not succeding ( god i so rely on spell checker) in ivf then try another hospital as not all hospitals do the same!!! Hopefully it's a good thing for you x

Hi Leanne & Little P,
First off ... best of luck to both of you with your upcoming treatments!

I had one round of IVF and 2 IUI's before getting my BFP in December. As most of the other women have stated, trying to relax as much as possible is key. I was contemplating postponing my last treatment due to the added stress of the holidays. Then someone told me that more women get pregnant in December than any other month of the year. Reason being is that they are so preoccupied with the holiday season that they aren't really thinking about getting pregnant. I also started acupuncture that cycle as well (which I found was a great way to de-stress).

In the end ... listen to your body, your clinic, and most importantly relax (easier said than done). It's a numbers game, so give it time. Wishing you both the best!
Kelly

Thanks kelly and congratulations on your BFP!!!

We are moving house and I am due to leave work the day before I test!!! So I will definately have loads of other stuff going on, just hope being upset doesn't affect anything!!!

I know a friend who had several failed ivf's and on the sucessful one, her father in law died and she said that she didn't care less if it worked or not there were more important things going on and obviously she was very upset and that turned out to be the +tive time!!!!

Happy weekend x
