how about 5 eggs

Postby all tied up » Wed May 09, 2007 5:15 pm

Ihave been cryingfor 3 hrs now, I am going thru IVF and was checked today and was told I only produced 5 eggs. Is that a bad thing? there was nothing positive today that came from the doctor, We all know there are risk but going thru this we need all positive things around us. yes tell us the risk but lets us also know the good side. I have 3 kids already the thing with me is that I had my tubes tied and didn't want to risk a tubal but how many people out there have had 5 or less eggs to retrieved? Please let me know if this is a waist of time..... :?

I have done 3 cycles now and can't say that I've ever had only 5 retrieved. Having said that, I get where you are coming from and just wanted you to know that I was here and that it can help just to get it off you chest. Not sure how good the doctors and nurses are but perhaps you can focus on the fact that it does only take 1 to make a healthy baby.

When we did our first round of IVF and they discovered that my outer shell of my eggs is too hard to be penetrated by sperm alone. We almost lost our chance. Out of 20'ish eggs retrieved we ended up with 4 "okayish" fertilized and we transferred them all with a 30% chance of success. And it worked. She is our miracle child.

We've tried 5 times since with one miscarriage and all of the those times we've been given good quality transfers and the miscarriage was from a blastocyst transfer. The success rate for those is 80%, so you just never know which one will produce the baby.

I look at my daughter everyday and thank God that I have her. But it still doesn't make the hurt any better on the losses that we've suffered. But I do know that anything is possible and I do try to focus on the positives... which include her.

Keep your head up and see what happens!! You just never know!!
