Adoption forum?

Post by beckym »

Does anyone know of a good adoption web forum where you can pose questions to people who have already adopted from abroad? We are currently on out second ICSI cycle. If this doesn't work we will try a third one but that will be it as we can't afford any more cycles. I know this may seem like looking too far in the future but I'm the type of person that needs to plan ahead and know what we would do if we got two more negatives. At present we are thinking that we would like to adopt a baby from China, Vietnam or The Phillipines(I used to live in Hong Kong, so have a bit of a Far East connection). If anyone has personal experience of going through the "home study" process here in the UK I would also be interested as I understand you have to do this even if you adopt a child from abroad. many thanks beckym xxx

Adoption forum?

Hi Becky
I don't know if they have a website forum but there is an orgainsation called Oasis telephone is 01752 225536 which helps people who want to adopt from abroad.
It has been set up by parents who have adopted children from many parts of the world. In fact many of them have adopted little girls from China.
Yes, you do have to go through the "home visit Study" the same as any other adoption from UK but if you are adopting from abroad this can cost you something like £2000 I believe. I know the whole procedure can be terribly expensive and can take quite a long time but I do know two people who have done it, one has a Russian boy and anothr a Chinese little girl.
We have thought about adopting form abroad, we won't be able to adopt a young child from UK because DH is older than me. Some other countries do not have such strict guide lines.
We did decide to continue with IVF but sometimes I have to say I do wonder if we have done the right thing?
Decisions, decisions it is never easy is it? Your cycle is going well though so let's hope this is your lucky go.
Love Gracex

thanks grace and becky.

grace - you said you couldn't adopt a young child from uk as dh is older than you. does this mean if dh is younger, one is able to adopt a younger child? I always asumed they went on the age of the female not the male? I'm 37 but my dh is only 32 (tomorrow!). beckym xxx
