julia_78 - every so often, a bit of my cramping has been pretty sharp and painful too. I've just decided to try and adopt the attitude that as long as I don't start to bleed, I'm going to try not to worry too much. Just get me to that first u/s! My boobs are very slightly tender, but they were tender even before ET so I'm putting that down to the progesterone and nothing else... GL with your bloodwork today, let us know how you get on! Did you manage to wangle an u/s out of them at the same time??

Gamergirl/CK - can't wait to hear your beta number today! I'm afraid I can't help about giving yourself the shots, as I'm on the Crinone gel. But, I saw someone on this site (can't remember who it was or which thread it was) once talking about their technique for self-administering the PIO. I think she said she found an instructional video on youtube of all places, but I'm not sure. Why don't you post a question on either this bit of the site or the IVF bit asking how to do it? I'm sure you would get tons of replies.

BRMommy2B - OMG poor you, what a scare. I'm so pleased the scan showed little Hope is doing just fine - he/she has always been a little fighter, you just have to remember that!

So does anyone else feel as if the next 8 months are going to pass by at a snail's pace?? I feel like I'm wishing my life away here, desperate to get to the 7 week u/s milestone, then the next milestone after that, and the next one! My clinic doesn't do betas, so they told me to do a HPT again on Friday (which will be 24dpo for me) and then call up to book in for a scan (which will be somewhere between day 35 and day 40). Of course, I'm testing every morning with some cheap high sensitivity strips because in the absence of getting a beta done, I want to see the line getting darker (which thankfully it seems to be doing)!!

hi brmommy2b - sorry about what you had to go through this weekend, can't imagine how long it must have seemed until you could get in & see your RE. so glad all is ok. with your super high beta and it being only one, you definitely have a fighter in there!
i have been having minor spotting too - mostly pink. **TMI ALERT** i don't see it too much when i wipe but mostly on the applicator for the progesterone inserts, and when the inserts "leaks" out. i told my nurse today and she said not to worry as long as it's pink or brown (red is bad). am awaiting the blood test results between 2 and 4 today, hoping for big numbers on both HCG and progesterone. this is so nerve wracking.
will update later once i have the b/w results.

Julia: That's exactly what I had been experiencing, until it got a little worse yesterday, and all still seems to be fine. I'd say try not to worry, but I don't know if I'll ever stop.

And Hazel - YES, I sometimes want to go to sleep and wake up in 8 months. Snails pace!

so just got the call back re: my b/w.
my beta is 740 (and that's 14 days post transfer) and that is just 60% increase per day since the first one. big sigh of relief...
my progesterone went DOWN to 10.3 from 11.1 despite the xtra endometrin. so they are upping my prometrium and adding 1 in the morning (not too happy about that, that stuff makes me sleepy) and still 3x endometrin inserts a day & 2 prometrium at night. the IVF nurse said that the level in my uterus is going to be much higher than 10 b/c endometrin does not go thru the bloodstream, it goes straight to the uterus, but they would still like it to be higher than 10.
brmommy2b - do you know what your blood level is? you are on endometrin too, right? just curious to see what other women's levels are.... also, the IVF nurse also mentioned that the spotting is caused by endometrin, that it aggravates the cervix when we take as much as we do, so not to worry.
so i am going back next monday for one more b/w, then on the 25th for the heartbeat u/s. soooo excited about that!!
that's it for me, back to work this week (i had forgotten the sound of the alarm clock, it was tough to get up this morning), and a lot of travel ahead (baltimore this week, amsterdam nxt week, and vacation in st kitts the week after that) so hopefully that will help me keep my mind off of the wait til the u/s!!

Julia: I can't remember what my progesterone was last time. I'm going back on Friday and I'm sure they'll do bloodwork, so I'll let you know then. Glad to hear your beta #s are progressing nicely. I haven't had one in a week (just had two), so the fact that you got to wait may have been a good thing, although stressful!

Afternoon Ladies,

I just wanted to let you know that I went to the Doctor Monday morning and I am officially pregnant! I will go back on the 20th for my ultra sound to see if we will be having one or two little ones. I also talked to the nurse about my progesterone shots and the trouble I was having with them. It turns out that I had become allergic to it. So she took me off and put me on the suppositories. That makes me so happy!! One thing I was wondering about it the estrogen patches. How long did you guys stay on them? My doc took me off of them Monday and said I didn't need them anymore now that I was pregnant. i have read in a few places that people have stayed on them for the same amount of time as the progesterone. Anyway, hope everyone is having a great week with no dramas!

Amen to a week without drama!!!! I am still on Estrogen patches and will remain on them until 10 weeks or so I believe. Not really sure why.

But I did find out why we take the progesterone supplements when other pregnant people don't have to. Here's what happens in a traditional pregnancy:

The follicle from which the egg was released is called the corpus luteum. It will release progesterone that helps thicken and prepare the uterine lining for implantation [I think ours is removed during the follicle aspiration, though I may be wrong]. The corpus luteum will produce progesterone for about 12-16 days (the luteal phase of your cycle.) When the egg is fertilized, the corpus luteum will continue to produce progesterone for the developing pregnancy until the placenta takes over around week 10. Progesterone is the hormone that helps maintain the pregnancy until birth. Sometimes, the failure of the corpus luteum to adequately support the pregnancy with progesterone can result in an early pregnancy loss. Progesterone inhibits immune responses, decreases prostaglandins, and prevents the onset of uterine contractions.

I have no clue about my Beta numbers. I seem to be at a loss on that one. All I know is I go in they take blood and call me the same afternoon to tell me everything is great. I know the nurse said my levels on the 31st were 124 and my levels on the 4th were 465. I guess I should ask some questions.

This pregnancy stuff is driving me crazy!! Day by day I feel more and more 'normal' and less bloated. If it weren't for the fact that I'm still doing a cheap HPT strip test each morning and the line is staying as dark or getting darker, I would swear I wasn't pregnant. It's all very weird. The clinic told me to test again at home tomorrow (with a 'proper' HPT) and then call up to make an appointment for a u/s on day 35-40 (today is 23 dpo). So at least this time tomorrow I will know how many more days I will have to endure the waiting game for before we get to the u/s!!

How are you ladies all faring? Has any m/s kicked in for anyone yet?

Gamergirl/CK - happy to hear you got switched to the suppositories as you wanted. Re the estrogen patches, I've not been on them at all. Since ER, the only thing I've been taking is progesterone.

julia_78 - yay for good beta numbers. Boo for having to up your progesterone again, I hope that does the trick though. Because I don't get any blood test, I'm only on one progesterone Crinone insert a day and my progesterone levels don't get checked - I can only trust that it's working as it should! Did you get told by your clinic to walk around for 15 minutes after inserting it, to make sure the progesterone gets absorbed rather than solidifying into a ball (not really sure how your Endometrin insert differs from my Crinone gel)? It's interesting, I've been having some pink clumps as well, which I've taken to be the residue of the vaginal gel which the progesterone is in. I hadn't really thought that counted as spotting, but I suppose it probably does. It isn't actually blood spots or blood flow though, just the gel turning a different colour, so I haven't worried too much. If I can ask (sorry if TMI!), have you been getting lots of clear liquidy discharge during the day as well? I have, and I've been assuming that's as a result of the vaginel gel too...

BRMommy2B - GL for your u/s tomorrow!! Are they expecting to be able to see a heartbeat for Hope yet? It was interesting to read that extract you posted about progesterone decreasing immune response, I guess it's so that our bodies don't attack the embryo/foetus as a foreign body, but presumably that also leaves us open to picking up germs and getting ill. I've been waking up with a sore throat in the mornings the last few days, does anyone else feel like they could be picking up a bug?

Hazel: I am excited for the u/s tomorrow. Hopefully we'll get to see a heartbeat. I'll be exactly 6 weeks, and they said you should be able to see the h/b between 5.5 and 6.5 weeks.

The morning sickness has begun for me (started Monday at 5w3d). I feel slightly nauseated throughout the day, but not enough to make me leave work or anything. The mornings are the hardest, just getting out of bed and getting ready because I feel like crap. My dh brings me V8 Fusion juice and crackers every morning so I can have a snack before I get up, which may help a little.

I also get lots of liquid-like discharge along with the endometrin clumpiness, nothing fun.

I haven't had any spotting since my scare on Sunday, which I'm thankful for, but at least once a day I have some cramping of various degress. I am a bit more relaxed now.

That "bug" you're feeling is the pregnancy. It can make you feel like some sickness is coming on, so you ARE having symptoms! Yay for you. I'll update everyone after my u/s tomorrow, which is at 10:45 CST.

Hazel- not to worry, just wanted to let you know that with Ella, I felt normal most of the way through, especially first trimester. I also worried b/c I had very little symptoms, and my bloating went away. Just be happy you are not doubled over with ms.

BRmommy- I hope you see the hb tomorrow, I just wanted to say don't worry if you don't. I didn't see ella's until our second u/s just over 7 weeks. Our first was around 6 weeks and I freaked out, but everything turned out normal. But hopefully, you will see it. :D

Michelle - Thanks for the info! I hope to see it too because I've had a few scares. It would just help me to rest assured! And we're not telling anyone besides our families and a few select others until we see good strong heartbeats, so the sooner the better!

Michele - hey there, thanks for the information and for keeping tabs on me, it's so sweet of you! Yes, the rational part of my brain is telling me to make the most of however long I have without m/s, peeing through the night etc, but the irrational part of my brain half wishes I was rushing to be sick every hour as at least I would feel properly pregnant! Be careful what you wish for, I know...

BRMommy2B - Good to hear that the inserts seem to cause the liquid-like discharge, that's one less thing to worry about! Crossing my fingers that Hope is well advanced and you'll see a heartbeat, but as Michele says don't panic if not! GL and make sure you let us know how you get on!

hi everyone!!

hazel - good luck for the HPT tomorrow. i'll be thinking of you all day. it will be +++++!!! don't worry about no symptoms, i still don't have any yet except for the tiredness & peeing all the time (and the nurse at my fertility center swears that i glow, unlikely but yet quite flattering...). no sore boobs or m/s or anything else though i also can't wait for it to start to make it feel more real, just like you ****TMI ALERT **** yep lots of discharge, mostly light pink. the insert applicator always has a bit of light pink blood on it but it has not gotten worse, so apparently just my cervix aggravated from the medicine. i had not been told to walk around but i'll start doing it now!! i also started a very heavy regimen of grapefruit juice (i read on the internet that it helps absorption of certain medicines, and progesterone is on the list of those it helps) so pulling all the stops to get that darn level up. in a way this progesterone issue gives me something to focus on so i have not been obsessing too much about trying to find symptoms i don't have :)

brmommy2b - sorry for the m/s, hope it will pass soon. good luck for your u/s appointment tomorrow!!!! that's so exciting! i have been feeling like i had a cold too (sore throat & sneezing), so i guess one more symptom to add on the board!! yay!

gamegirl/ ck - yay for endometrin inserts! i have never been on PIO shots, but based on what everyone says about them i am so glad i am doing inserts!! it's messy but no needles :)

afm - travelling this week for work and it's been really hard b/c i am soooo tired and the early morning flight was a KILLER. i wanted to go to bed at 7 but got sucked into a work dinner yesterday and my colleagues picked ... sushi! they know i love sushi so i did not want to be obvious and went in anway, and i had avocado rolls, miso soup and water, and was wondering how long it would take them to figure out i am pregnant.. otherwise all is good, no longer panicking over my stats and just enjoying the moment & the grapefruit juice :)

grow baby grow everyone!

Are yalls tickers always a day behind! It's driving me crazy! I'm 5 weeks 6 days today! And all of the emails I subscribe to have me at a different point. Technically, tomorrow I'll be 6 weeks, but in my 7th week. I got an email today saying "You're at 7 Weeks! Only 33 to go!" And I was like wellll, not really, but I wish I were!

Julia: I sneeze all the time! And I'm such a little worrier, when I feel a sneeze coming on I hold my stomach to try to soften the blow! Ridiculous, I know!

My dad was in town yesterday and brought me grapefruits! I'm one of 4 so I guess my parents know what they're doing! Yummy!

Talk to you all later.
