Wondering how many couples out there in the lower 40's who have never conceived children, but have adopted. We have 2 lovely children and are almost at the empty nest stage. I am looking forward to spending time with my wife and at this point have no interest in adding to our family. My wife has been talking about IVF. We tried back in the 90's when success rates were not too good. We are split on having an addition to the family. This is something she really wants to do and I really do not. Anyone who has been in this situation please share how you resolved your differences and what was the final decision you made. Also do you have any regrets in whatever decision you made ?

I think you both need to be in agreement over such a big decision. If you don't want this, it would only cause harm in the end. I feel bad for her if this is what she wants, but feel bad for you also if you don't. It is a lifelong thing as you already know. Im older and sometimes I worry about that and sometimes it hits me that I will be old by the time she gets out of highschool. Just food for thought. Good luck in whatever you decide. but only the two of you can decide.

Thanks for me giving me some things to think about. I too was thinking, man I will be old when our child is in high school. I'm 43 and was figuring by the time 12th grade rolls around, I will be 61-almost social security age. Me and my wife are still talking about things. I keep going back and forth, but did reiterate to my wife that my feelings about not having a baby are really strong. If you don't mind me asking, how come you waited to have a baby at a later stage ?
