I live in the UK - the joys of nice employment laws :D

Right, shall gear myself up to have someone else deal with the ick factor - found the vaginal scan bad enough without the presence of AF!

Nice - meanwhile I get the joys of literally the worst employment/maternity laws in the industrialized world... :x

Yeah, aren't those scans a blast? I was close to overstimming my first cycle so I had one every day for a week. By retrieval day I felt like I should be leaving a tip on the exam table when I left - that tech was sure getting a lot more action than my husband!

I still remembered my first scan: terrible. it was a scan and followed by a hysteroscopy examination. I was there alone, with a male nurse and a male doctor. Very strange atomspheres. I did not even care to watch the screen while the doctor explained the myoma found in the cavity of my womb as I almost fainted. The second time was much better. The doctor was more careful and the nurse was female this time. AND, I was prepared for all weird feelings

I am leaving on vacation for 3 weeks. Hopefully I will be completed relaxed and ready for the big challenge.

See you girls soon!

Itl81 - better late than never, a big welcome. I had my transfer on a friday and took three days off work (all best rest). For me that was like punishment and I looked forward to getting back to my desk as this helped me to focus on something else. If it's workable, after transfer and some days of best rest plan a short holiday ...than staying home ...but again, you have to do what you feel comfortable with...the worst case is blaming yourself afterwards.

Our social system pays for 4 tries and all of them have to be done before the age of 40. We are praying and hoping that one of these will grant us our dream baby.

Emma:
Enjoy your holiday....when are you starting your cycle?

Nancy
All the best for your first appointment on 8/4. I have my appointment on 4th as well to discuss about the previous cycle and which protocol we should use this time around as I almost had OHSS.

Hi there... Looks like I'm going to be joining you girls for a september cycle...

We did our first IVF in January, got a bfp, but found a blighted ovum at 7.5 weeks... recovered, then did a FET in June, another bfp, only to have another blighted ovum at 7 weeks. Ugh!

We thought about waiting until January but think that with my age we should do what we can while we can, so we're taking the plunge again.

IVF is a bit different for me - I live 500 miles away from the nearest clinic and will have to be in Vancouver, BC for the duration of my treatment - alone. Not the most fun thing in the world, I am already dreading it.... considering looking into some kind of course I can take to fill up the days.

I am excited, and terrified. Getting two bfps and then having such crushing blows was almost more than we could take. My huband is very hopeful but I worry about how hard he takes it when it's bad news.

It's going to be a long wait but I do want to wish you all the best right up front. :)

Emma - I almost passed out with my hysteroscopy, too. Amazing how blase men are about those procedures that they consider to be "no big deal"... Enjoy your vacation!

dinagin - At both of my follow-up appointments my RE basically said that they had no idea why it didn't work except that there is always only a 50% chance, better luck next time. Looking back they did do a lot of things differently for my second full cycle, but when you're still raw from that BFN "I don't know" doesn't seem like an acceptable answer.

Sonya - Welcome! I am impressed by your courage in trying again so soon, and in going through it alone 500 miles from home. And I thought my 2-hour drive was bad... Are you doing a fresh cycle next or FET this time around? I have mixed feelings about doing my upcoming FET because the process is so much easier but the success rate is significantly lower.

I don't know about bookmarking. I select "Notify me when a reply is posted" on the post options and I get an e-mail when something new has been added to this thread, which is helpful.

Due to start down regulation end of August, first ever cycle of IVF, so slightly nervous! Would be great to go through the experience with some friends as my husband doesn't really get it.

Johanna - Welcome! Ha, I think men in general tend to not get it! Of course there are some exceptions, but for the most part... I remember driving to a meeting with a male co-worker and the Dixie Chicks song "So Hard" came on the radio. Part way through it he kind of scoffed and said, "What are they on about, 'it's so hard when it doesn't come easy' - no kidding!" I explained that it was about infertility, and he still just gave me this what's-the-big-deal look. All of us here get it.

@Sonya – welcome to the September group. I just read your blog and it just made me realise what we IVFers go through. But the most evident obsession is what a strong and determined person you are. I am a strong believer that we will all eventually hold our babies one day.

AFM: I had my post failed IVF talk with my RE today. Since we had trouble during the transfer, we will have a monk transfer during Sept AF (Ink..). He will also increase my dosage of progesterone this time around as I started bleeding before beta (high chances are that I will be on PIO).

We have a family get together this weekend and I cannot imagine how many people will ask us “why” we don’t want to have a family. All ladies in both our families get prego in like one try.
Both our families don’t know that we are going through IVF. We decided to keep it this way to avoiding family member passing stupid comments ….its had enough as it is and we cannot handle more.

Hi girls!
Thanks for the invite Wondercat! Hope it's okay to jump in on this thread.

I'm about to begin a fresh ivf cycle. On bcp now through 8/12, will begin Lupron 8/10. When AF shows I'll get baselines done & see where to go from there - Gonal F waitin' in the fridge :D I was also prescribed Menopur this go around, didn't use it back in late '07 which was my last ivf that blessed us with our dd. I assume that's an LH drug, and gonal f is the FSH drug...is that right? You'd think I would have googled that by now...will look it up today.

Did a FET in July, first beta was positive at 19 but the second beta dropped to 5. Hoping for better luck with the fresh cycle.

dinagin - I know what you mean. We chose to be open with our fertility issues, but I think that either way people will inadvertently make comments that are hurtful. My sister got pregnant "by accident" with her daughter 1 month after she got married and again by accident with her son 3 years later. I got married the same year - 8 years ago this month. The two of them used to make the most thoughtlessly cruel comments by complaining about their children. I distinctly remember Christmas 2 years ago my nephew was crying and my brother-in-law turned to me and said something very sarcastic along the lines of, "And why do you two want this again?" I almost decked him, standing there complaining about his two beautiful children that my husband and I would do anything to have...

soccermom - Welcome! I hate to say this, but I'm not sure which drug is which either! I think after a certain point in this process your brain reaches saturation and you just can't handle any more details. I'm getting ready for a FET, which I have done before but I confess that I kind of forget what exactly the process will be.

Dinagin -

I know all too well about people (esp family members) asking questions as to when DH & I were going to have kids. It's amazing just how clueless & rude people can be! As if it is any of their business! I turn the tables on those questions by making those idiots feel uncomfortable (just a bit of Irish temper in me  ). For instance, if older family members ask the "when" question...I ask them right back! "When are you guys going to have a baby?!" Oh, I'm sorry...is that an awkward or dare I say RUDE question to ask...hmmmmm...then maybe you shouldn't be asking me? Ya think?!
That being said, when we went through our 1st ivf we told immediate family members what we were going through. After DD was born, we shared with everyone else what we went through to have her. I think a few light-bulbs went off in certain individuals' heads & I just hope they realized that it isn't "cute" to continuously ask the "when" question to anyone.
I know it's such a personal journey, but maybe if you shared what you were going through then you'd receive support rather than constant questions fishing for info. Just a thought.
