failed IVF, bleeding then hcg rising - confused

Postby 46494649 » Tue Aug 22, 2017 2:09 pm

Hello I had 2 day 5 morula transferred earlier this month (thank you for the expert opinion, Ghost!)

unfortunately, hcg was to low and and i was told to stop all meds/injections following 12dpo blood test as the cycle did not work for us.
    10dpo5dt - 18
    12dpo5dt - 23

a few days later, bleeding started, heavier than usual. full flow for six full days.

during this period, i was asked to do another blood test to make sure hcg is going down.
    18dpo5dt - 200
    20dpo5dt - 440

with slowly rising hcg even after bleeding, the doctor suspected ectopic pregnancy, so i had an ultrasound and another blood test on 22dpo5dt. It turned out that a very small GS was visible in the right location and hcg was 1200. good to confirm it was not ectopic but she still called it "not normal pregnancy".

I was told to expect another bleeding to start soon. if it doesn't start in the next several days, i need to go in for another ultrasound and she said she will refer me to my obgyn for medical treatment.

even though it was very small, GS was visible and i was wondering what makes it 100% conclusive that it is not a normal pregnancy. very low hcg, having bleeding soon after, very small GS, all of the above i guess. but will there be any chance that it is just a slow starter and (despite having AF) it is still alive and survive?? there is no reason to wait and see if we can get heartbeat in a few weeks? does anyone know any cases started like this and ended up with a success?

We have seen that happen in rare cases. I do not recall any of them resulting in live birth, but the number of cases is very small.

At this point, it may be best to let the embryo decide its viability. Are you still taking progesterone?

Thank you, Ghost, for your quick response! No all meds were stopped on 12 days after the transfer and the doctor didn't change anything on 22dpo . i was wondering if there is any value in resuming progesterone injection and suppositories (i have to say I was so happy to be off of that painful daily injections but willing to resume) but didn't want to sound rude suggesting something to doubt the doctor's decision. so..

btw, I also wanted to thank you for watching out for fake accounts/postings to promote clinics in Ukraine.
it is a shame that people try to take advantage of women/couples who go through a lot and need support. while it has been tremendously helpful for me to learn a lot here, we all need to be careful about what to trust in this community and for that, I appreciate you stepping in and sending out alert.

Thanks for all of that. This board is almost dead, but the shills will kill it completely if they turn it into a bunch of fake ads. It's also annoying that they try to deceive. If a clinic really had such a fantastic reputation, there would be no need to do that.

I do not recall the type of cycle you had. Was it fresh? Or frozen? In other words, you might have follicles making progesterone if you had a fresh (non-donor) embryo transfer following stimulation and egg collection.

If you have an intrauterine pregnancy, you may want to ask your physician if you can and should resume progesterone.
