Progesterone in Sesame Oil - out of stock?

Postby chonda » Fri Dec 01, 2017 3:39 pm

Hi Ghost,

I just got a bfp and there is no more progesterone anywhere. Do you know of a place that has it in stock or when it will be available? What are people doing in the meantime?

Thanks

This should not be a problem.

There are many types of progesterone available. There are injections in different media (those in olive oil and ethyl oleate are adequately stocked, while those in sesame oil are currently in short supply), a vaginal gel (Crinone), vaginal tablets (Endometrin), and oral pills. The pills alone are probably insufficient due to poor absorption, but can give a little boost to any of the others. Crinone and Endometrin are the only types that are FDA-approved for this use (sustaining pregnancy after IVF), but the injections are widely considered the best option by physicians, assuming the patient can stand the resulting soreness.

There are also compounded progesterone suppositories that are very commonly used.

Another option is to use hCG in the case of a fresh non-donor transfer or a natural cycle FET (whenever there is a corpus luteum (follicle) that can release progesterone when stimulated by LH or hCG). Some even use an agonist (like Lupron) in very low doses to stimulate the corpus luteum.

Hope this helps. Best of luck.

By the way, congrats on your BFP. Is this from your mosaic embryo?

No, I did another cycle and got one normal embryo. The mosaic is still frozen. Still not sure what to do with it.
