Considering Egg Share, anyone else?

Postby Sallyc » Sat Jul 23, 2005 1:41 pm

Hi there,

me and dh have already had one ivf cycle in Dec. 04/Jan. 05, unfortunatly ended with eptopic.

Now we r considering going down the lines of an egg-share program. I just recived the info pack from the clinic and to be honest...it all sounds too good to be true. Obviosly we yet have to do all the blood tests and stuff to see if they will consider us as suitable donors.

Is anyone of u currently in the same situation or has even already done a cycle with egg share? Would love to hear from u, as this is all pretty new to us.

Any thoughts appreciated.

(sorry if the spelling is cr.., beeing german i am still learning *lol*)

Sally.

Hey Sally,
I am currently doing an IUI cycle with my own eggs but I would consider an egg share or embryo adoption if this does not work. I wish you the best of luck. Its a wonderful way to build your family.

Hi Sally - Nice to hear from you - I remember your last cycle. Hope all is well.

I'm not doing egg share, but posted because I am currently changing clinics and have seen there literature on egg share. The only reason I'm not doing it is because I'm too old. I don't know what the laws are in Germany but in the UK you need to be under 36, and I bl**dy well turned 36 yesterday, so that's out for me now.

I wish you all the best in your next cycle

Hi Girls,

thx 4 your replies.

@Kati-wish u all the best 4 your IUI. Really hope it works out 4 u.

@Sandra-nice to hear from u. Egg-Share isnt possible in Germany, Egg Doner is against the law whatsoever. Plz dont ask me why. I really dont know. If we r going ahead with this then it would be in uk.
Bit late but still, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Hope u had a really nice day. U r right, 4 egg share u have to bee 35 or under :( Shame. Have u tried to find out about clincs in for eg. Spain etc.? Or r u going to choose another clinic in uk?

Wish u all the best and good luck with the new clinic.

Hi Sally

I did egg share for my last ivf. We were given lots of info and advise, we even had to have counselling to make sure we were aware of all the emotional and legal issues involved. I have to say that DH and I had no problems or doubts at all and even though our attempt didn't work we don't regret it at all. I did think I might wonder about the couple who received the eggs but so far I haven't really. I really honestly hope they were lucky and that their dreams can come true. I do not think of it in any way shape or form as part of me. We were given the choice to find out if they were sucessful or not and we choose not to know ( not all clinics give this option).

This was our 4th attempt at ivf although only our 1st donating eggs. We are currently looking for a new hospital as we have moved house and the new hospital wants to know if the recipient was sucessfull in order to decide if they will let us egg share again. I think this is because we have had so many attempts without a +tive.

I don't know what questions you want answering or why you think it sounds too good to be true, if you want to ask in more detail I will try and help. I think the really important thing is to understand that it is not just a cheap option to do ivf ( although it does make a huge difference) , it is going to help another couple have the chance to fulfill their own dreams.

The problems can arise when the child is old enough to find you and how you would deal with that ( DH and I have no problem at all with that, infact I would really welcome it) and the fact that you can't go and find the child, again we have no problem with that but it may effect other people differenty. The law also states that if the mother giving the egg has any other children of her own, those children have a right to be told about the egg sharing and the right to look up any potential half brothers or sisters.

One thing i would recommend if you have the choice, I wrote a message to the potential child explaining why I gave the eggs away and how it was all done out of love and that they were a special child that was so badly wanted. I also explained a little about myself and my family and wished them love. It has made me feel better and offers me comfort to know that the child will acknowledge the love and care involved in the process.

Hope some of this helps.
I am staying with family at the moment waiting for our new house, so on Brothers computer but will try and answer any questions as soon as I can x p.s excuse spelling also - yes I am English but rely on spell check too often lol ! I have a very good German friend and keep asking if she'll teach me German and she jokes " yes when I've taught you English" she's right aswell !!! Good luck x

Leanne: How beautiful of you and your DH to share your eggs with another couple. Isn't it wonderful that this entire process can make us want give to others.

@ Leanne - thanks 4 your reply. It has already helped. I am determined to do this but still need to sit down with hubby and talk it through. We have discussed it briefly but not properly as he is in uk at the mo and has been 4 the last 8 weeks(while i am in germany  )

I want to make sure that it would be ok 4 him, if (hopefully) the other couple has a baby resulting from this treatment, that this child might knock on our door in a few years time. I am ok with that, just need to make sure he is 2. Guess its a bit diffrent for them, or is it? My hubby is the most important person in my live and - for nothing - would i risk our relationship so i need to bee a 100 % sure that he would be ok with that.

Why i think it sounds to good to be true? Well, because u get the chance of doing ivf, a chance of having a baby (even if its not a huge one, but there) at an affordable price(i know really the money shouldnt matter, but lets face it it does) AND u also give the chance of having a baby to another couple. I think that is brilliant. :D

Right, have bored u for long enough now 8)

Really hope it works out 4 u next time round.

Let us know when u r starting again, never know, maybe we can cycle together *lol*

By the way, about what your friend says, i always tell hubby the same! :D
