Just had beta today and wondering is levels are normal?

Postby Rach » Thu Dec 15, 2005 2:42 am

Hi, My transfer was sat and we transfered 3. Anyway, one was 7 celled grade (2), and the other two were 5 celled one grade (2) and the other (3).
My estrogen level came back today at 3670 and progesterone is 46. Can anyone tell me if that is good.
Thanks

Beta Numbers

Postby az_ip » Sat Dec 17, 2005 6:28 am

Hi Rach,

If you just had your transfer Saturday (like five days ago?) - I am surprised they are testing already. And...okay - I might be confused...so bear with me.

I thought the beta was testing for the hormone released when the embryo implanted into the uterus. It varies greatly - and normally they check it about two weeks after the transfer - and then two days later. The 2nd test should be twice as high as the first. Our first beta was 406 and our 2nd was 1,011.

I didn't really realize they would test estrogen levels - at least not after the transer. Did they say it was a positive pregnancy test? If the BETA was 3670 at FIVE days...I would say that is really high - like - could all three embryos have taken root? But - if the doctor was testing estrogen levels, I don't know what the number would be at all!

As for progesterone levels...I know that anything over 80 is good. (at least according to our Doctor) Now...that was past our positive pregnancy test. Our surrogate started to spot (can be normal in IVF) and they determined she was a bit low and they increased her dosage - the spotting quit. I am not sure what that level would normally be at 5 days.

So, that doesn't help you at all. But thought I'd try. Good luck on your transfer - and hope all goes great!

Thanks for input

The bloodwork was done this past wed. My nurse did not say it was a beta. I am not sure of the difference between all the test. She did say however that everything looked good and that they look for estrogen levels to be at least 200 so I am hoping 3670 is better than average. WE are doing a lot of praying in my home these days. Thanks for your imput.

Hi Rach,

Okay - thought I was really confused...and wondering why they didn't test us after five days!!!

So sounds like your levels are good! You are in the middle of your two-week wait (ugh) but it'll be over pretty soon. Guess you'll probably have a good idea at about Christmas...couldn't get a better gift than that.

Good luck! We'll keep you in our thoughts!!! :D
