Not to much longer till miley's first birthday.. I am getting a little worried about her not talking. She has said several words but does not say them often. She just babbles, no mama, dada, baba, nothing anymore. She can follow simple directions like get the baby for example. need to talk to doctor about it i guess when we go for year old shots.

Not to worry about Miley. That is normal. Children start talking anywhere up to 2 and sometimes after that. Einstein didn't talk until he was 4! I wouldn't worry until after 2.

Hi Carolina!!!

Kipatte is correct... I am an early childhood development "specialist" and children usually only say dada, momma and babbling sounds akin through to their 2nd year. My baby boy says "dah, dah, do, doin etc!" with emphasis like he's "telling it like it is!" but no one understands a word he's saying!!!! Its adorable... Miley is meeting all her milestones within the developmental period of time! totally not to worry!!! In the meantime I will be awaiting party stories... :-)

Well it was Elllies birthday just over 2 weeks ago and I am only just recovering now!

We had a BBQ and decorated the garden with pink and purple bunting and loads of paper butterflies and windchimes. We put up a couple of gazebos as the weather forecast was not good and it had totally poured with rain all the previous week.....anyway....the day was just perfect the sun was shining and everyone came who said they would.

We had 25 adults and 6 children, the garden was crowded but so much fun, we were still eating buffet food for a few days afterwards but luckily not too much was wasted.

I don't think we will go to this extreme for next years birthday, it was so exhausting, but really enjoyed marking that first year....early in the party I was saying tis time last year...I was in sooooo much pain!

I think I was the last in our little group to give birth, so I guess you have all celebrated by now too, so I hope you all had a fantastic time on your special day with your special babies....oops toddlers!

Here's a recent photo of Ellie

Yes Kipatte, Ellie has so much hair and has had it cut once already, it is a bit of a nightmare to get the tangles out of it in the morning without screams, but once it is done the curls are just so cute....the downside is, although Ellie is still small for her age people tend to think she is a lot older than she is, so are quite surprised that she isn't talking, walking etc!

I gave myself my first proper manicure and pedicure today since I was about 6 months pregnant! Never seem to get the time to pamper myself the same nowadays so it was soooooo nice to do so!

Carolina1girl1: Miley is such a cute baby, she takes a lovely photo, Ellie is due to get her next professional shoot done, but I keep forgetting to ring up to make that appointment.

My life seems to revolve around appointments at the moment, Dentist, Doctor, Health visitor, Othopaedics oh the list goes on, at the moment I feel like I am chasing my own tail.

I have just taken up running, I have joined a group for beginners, it is an 8 week course and by the end of it I should be able to run around 3 miles. I must admit it feels good to be doing something, I have never really lost my baby weight and have never even tried to, now I've just got to cut out those Mars Bars.

So how are you all doing, it seems very quiet on here at the moment, obviously some of our lovely ladies have drifted off, probably run ragged by their little ones and just getting on with ther family lives!

Can any of you give me some advice pleeeeease! I am trying to wean Ellie off her bottle onto a cup, so far we are only succeeding with the morning cup, I give her it after breakfast and she drinks nearly all of it...BY LUNCH TIME! Is this normal, perhaps I should make it into a milk shake by adding fruit, When should I wean the evening bottle?

Also, Ellie was always a brilliant sleeper, but this last month she has been dreadful to put to bed, after I give her milk and read a story, sing a song and cuddle I put her in her cot and she screams for around 1/2 hour, at first we kept going up to try to settle her, but the last 2 nights we have left her to cry to sleep, but it is soooooo hard, tonight I had to put headphones on with music and even then I could see the lights on the monitor flashing into the red, oh its so heartbreaking! Any advice appreciated!

Oh Mandy you sure are going through it... I cannot bear to hear my little ones scream but I usually let them cry it out for a bit until I just get the screamer and take them into bed with me. When they are soundly asleep I put them back to their bed and then we are good to go... right now is an adjustment age. They are recognizing common people and I feel they want reassurance by cuddling - I waited too long for them to sit separately to listen to them scream - I WANT HUGS TOO :P

I have not taken my wee ones off the bottle at all. Its a comfort object for them. They have gone down to two bottles during the day and they may or may not drink an evening one (small one). They drink their juice (with lots of water in it) through sippys and from there I can tell if they are ready to change everything to sippy or straw - not yet... I know they will wean themselves because they don't cry for a bottle when hungry, they just want something in their bellies...

I am almost off for the summer and I will have a lot to do in my time off (8 weeks). I hope I can get it all done - I am alone...

Hope to hear from some of you ladies!!! Miss you all!!! OH, Mandy - many of us are on Facebook!!!

Hi Mandy:

What time are her naps? How long does she sleep. What time do you put her to bed?

Regarding bottles, I am not in a hurry to take Stephie off them. They are convenient and I am assured she has her vitamins and enough liguid. I am just offering Stephie milk at meal times in a doidy cup and that cuts down on how much she drinks from the bottle. So far she has not really taken to water or juice yet. I'll just see how it goes. When I was a teenager and babysat children were on bottle until they were 2. Maybe that is why I am not so fast to get off them. The morning bottle and evening one are still huge comforts for her.

I don't know if it's me or if other people feel this way but it seems like everyone is so fast to move forward and get babies to the next stage. I am slower to do this and look for clues for Stephie to tell me when she is ready for things.

Has anyone heard from WC lately?

Goodnight

Hi Girls...

WC is away until June 8th. She is not on the boards as much but we email from time to time...

I totally agree with you RE: the bottles... it is a comfort for them and when my older son was a baby no one was in a hurry and he was totally weaned by two - he did it himself... and yes, bottles are convenient :-)

My babies sleep two times a day and they are really good naps when they are home. They go to sleep pretty well in the evening like about 8pm. I let them play until they start lying down and get comfortable. I will put them to bed when they are asleep.

OK, I am fighting for the computer now so gotta go...

Ellies naps are a bit sporadic, but usually around 11am for 1 hour and around 2pm. But sometimes, she just won't sleep at all during the day and other times she will just have one sleep for 2 1/2 hours.

Normally she would go to bed at 8pm, but recently it has ended up being 10.30-11pm with her fighting it.

Anyway, things have looked up for the last 2 nights, she has gone to bed around 8.30pm with only about 2 minutes of crying...but unfortunately she has woken through the night instead!

Your comments regarding the bottle make me feel a lot better, the health visitor gives advice and you try to follow it, but sometimes the best advice is on here!

Thanks Girls

Hi Mandy:

This is going to sound contrary to what you might think but the healthy sleep book would suggest you try to put her down earlier. They go in cycles and when they are over tired adrenaline kicks in and they fight going to sleep. They would suggest trying to put her down 30 minutes earlier each night until you hit the right time. Hope this helps.
