Children with special needs

Prospective parents must think carefully before adopting children with special needs.

There is much more flexibility of adopting children with special needs. Adopting one of these children may be a difficult decision and will require a tremendous commitment from the prospective parents. However, many parents find the experience very gratifying, and will sometimes adopt a second child with special needs. Adopting parents must have a realistic understanding of the child's problems and how to tackle them.

Families who adopt special needs children may be eligible for financial assistance from the government because these children may require long-term care.
