To chose or not to chose donor. If yes, where?

Postby jethro » Thu May 26, 2011 1:12 pm

i couldnt sleep. to chose, or not to chose donor?
in that sense, price shouldnt play main role.
at the first, i was thinking about czech clinics, where ivf is cheaper than in i.e. but you dont know anything about donors except blood type, hobbies, color skin and rough things. in ukraine, russia etc is the same, but you can chose and see donor...
finaly, i decided: i want to chose donor.
i heard that there are some agencies in kiev (ukraine) who offers donors. they have contract with donors. they have donors base so you can chose. i found one small agency, they gave me access to their base, but it is small: only app 30 donors.
did anybody experienced such IVF (look at the picture, or meeting a donor)? i will be glad to hear/read such experience...
im 43, my wife is 36. we have one baby (wifes egg was :-)) and she is 1,5 yrs.
anybody knows? can i bring donor with myself? from my country...?
we are from croatia.
english is not my native language, so sorry...
i am expecting to spend 7k euro...
so, what if donor has 2 or... 6 eggs? if transfer of 2 embrios fails from donor who has "only" 2 eggs, do i need to pay whole story again? in the other case, donor who has 6 eggs - i can expect 3 transfers.
am i correct?
what is successful ratio in such case: woman 36, already one child, endometry ok, quality 6 cells embrio from young donor?

thanks for any kind of advice.

Hi Jethro,
I can't speak to your question about the Ukraine because I didn't get our donor from there. Our ED was from Czech and it was a wonderful experience. We got to select the donor from a large number of traits - physical, educational, as well as hobbies. The donor we chose had previous success where the two women she donated to prior to us got pregnant. They had stats on the number of eggs she produced as well as the number that fertilized. In our case, the donor ws 28 years old, and had two successful donor rounds prior to our case. During our round, she produced 16 eggs, 12 fertilized and we transferred 3 very good blasts. We got pregnant on our first round with twins. Prior to our donor cycle, we had undergone 11 IVF rounds (2 cancelled, 2 chemical pregnancies, and 7 BFN) so we were thrilled at our result. At the time they told me that non of the embryos were top quality which is what they decide upon for freezing - in hindsight I would have asked them to freeze any that made it to day 6. Easier to know after the fact.
Hope that information helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

hi kelly,
here i go again :-)

i read your post few times, so questions are generated:

...Hi Jethro,

...kelly, i dont want to be suspecios in all these procedures, but many things flew through my brain.
i.e, you said that you select donor from a large numbers....
i am not sure about this. prague is a small town, litle bit more than 1,2 mil. people, and whole republic 10 mil.
people are conservative, so i dont think that their base is such a big so you can chose one of few who has same blod type like you or your husband, eye colour, education, hobbies etc. really you can not check any of these things except blood type. all you have is doctors word! thats why i think that all these negotiation, choosing smallest details etc are just ... words fly.
of course, their base is i.e. maybe 50-100 girls so they can not satisfy such number of pairs. they are not golden fish.
that is why i want to pay more to get really that i want. finally, you have god's role to create further family, to chose what you want and make a significant part in future. kill me if i am wrong!

ive been contacted from some agency in ukraine and they gave me donors base so i could choose girl. i thought it is legal. after i contact other clinic, ive been told that is not legal at all. so it means that there are realy possibility to make really everything that you have on mind!
to be honest, this agency doesnt have much ED to chose. mostly are ok, but few of them are realy the last one i will chose at all!. thats why this doubt is created in my mind...

... The donor we chose had previous success where the two women she donated to prior to us got pregnant. They had stats on the number of eggs she produced as well as the number that fertilized.

... how do you know these details?

...congrats!

... ough, i didnt get it! you have more frozen embrios?

please reply when you will be able to do so. i dont know what to do. my had is like a drum.
sorry for my language, but i think that it was clear...

Hi Jethro - I went to Prague from the UK for my ED - we were matched within weeks of consultation, saw no pictures - matching just went on blood groups and characteristics we wanted - like hair and eye colour - my donor produced 9 eggs - 7 of which fertilised with ICSI - first attempt failed but got pregnant with a FET and now have 16 month old twin boys - and everyone comments how one looks just like me and the other just like my husband - we just smile and say yes !!!

Good luck coming to your decisionxx

Kelly - how the hell are you - hows the little ones - what you been up to ?? would be great to catch up - are you on facebook - PM me !! big kisses to them both xxx

Very soon, ina month we are going to choose a donor. In Ukraine and if you specifically, in the clinic Isida, We know there is a very high level of medicine and the probability of fertilization is high. Also, we are very concerned about the price - so Isida. True, we see the donor does not want. Personally, I do not want after all to look at my child and compare with the photo I've saw before. No, let the child be just our. I wish you to found your continued in a wonderful baby. :)

Hi,

I've visited this clinic and tried my last IVF with an egg donation there. They've a good service. We contacted to a reproductive agency Successful Parents and they organized my IVF. But I had severe endometriosis and after treatment haven't chance to conceive and carry a baby myself. Doctors noticed my little chances to carry it and suggested us a surrogacy. But I wanted to be pregnant and feel it so much. My last IVF failed of course. Miscarriage. We've tried many IVF attempts at different clinics, spent a big sum of money. But I had miscarriages. Now want to try again to get a baby but this time with surrogacy.

Hi, I've been reading this blog & I'm very interested in donor eggs from the Zlin clinic in Czech, I'd also really like to chat with KellyM, I feel as though our situation is very similar. Is there anyway I could get in contact with her, I'd love to share my experience with her & I know that she would have great advise to give.

I am an egg donor!
I am a 19 year old college student with brown hair, brown eyes, and a slender, athletic build. I am 5'6" and I have fair skin. I have never had any genetic problems, and have always had great teeth and skin. The only problem I have is the need for contacts. Same with my parents and grandparents. I do not smoke, drink, or do drugs. I work out regularly. I received a 30 on the ACT and a 2020 on the SAT. I had a 4.3 GPA in high school. I was also on the Varsity basketball and Cross-Country team. I play basketball for my college. I am very outgoing and I love reading, nature, and my friends and family. I am a very sweet and caring person. I live in the U.S. and I'm willing to travel.
If you have any questions please contact me at heatbball11@gmail.com

Warm Regards,

Lexie
