Dr Marcus qualified from Cairo University with honours and completed his specialist training in the UK. He is a fellow and a member of many national and international institutions including: fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, member of the British Fertility Society, member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology and member of East Anglian Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Society and member of West Kent Medico-Chirurgical Society.

He was appointed as consultant gynaecologist at Bourn Hall Clinic, Cambridge UK in 1989. Bourn Hall was the world's first IVF clinic and was established by Patrick Steptoe and Robert Edwards following the birth of the first "test tube baby", Louise Brown, in 1978. Dr Marcus is currently a consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and Lead Fertility Clinician at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Lewisham University Hospital and Clinical Director Gynaecology. Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust , London UK. He also works as a consultant Gynaecologist at the Blackheath Hospital, London.

Dr. Marcus feels priviliged and honoured to have had the opportunity to work with the late Professor Sir Robert Edwards in Bourn Hall Clinic Cambridge. He was also involved in many research projects in Reproductive Medicine and IVF with Prof Edwards resulting in a number of publications. Professor Edwards was awarded the Nobel prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2010 for the development of in vitro fertilization.

He has a particular interest in the diagnosis and management of infertility, Polycystic ovarian syndrome, IVF, intrauterine insemination, surgical sperm retrieval,endometriosis and egg and embryo donation. Dr Marcus is an experienced gynaecological surgeon and has special interest in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, tubal surgery, removal of fibroids (myomectomy), endometriosis and menstrual problems.

Dr Marcus is passionate about ensuring patients are empowered with the knowledge of their condition and management options available. This drive lead to the development of www.ivf-infertility.com in 1999 a free non-affiliated website. He is the founder and medical director of this site and continues to maintain and update it. He also publishes and lectures on many aspects of assisted conception treatments, infertility and obstetrics and gynaecology. He is the author and co-author of over 140 peer reviewed publications, abstracts and chapters in text books.
