Former Hull patient, needing some advice please

Post by meganolivia »

Hi
I'm new here, sorry to barge on.... need some thoughts or advice please, if you wouldn't mind reading through the following, and posting back - I'd be very grateful! Thanks :)

I had treatment at the Hull IVF Unit 3 years ago and when I finished my name was put down on the waiting list for a donor egg. I was told then that it'd be 2 years minimum if ever.
Since then we've gone on to adopt. And although we are very happy with our lives as adoptive parents, there was always that bit of hope that one day I may conceive.
When we left the IVF behind, we still had one last NHS funded attempt to have. And were told that this would be carried forward until we got to the top of the waiting list. I was hoping to maybe put it off further so that we could consider it again, possibly with our own "pieces" if and when things improve in the future.
Because staff at the clinic knew we were adopting, I'm wondering if our names were taken off that waiting list or whether it's likely we're still on there somewhere.
And reading in today's paper that because funding has been agreed in Hull and surrounding areas, those who are currently on the waiting list will still be funded upto March 2007. Does anyone know if this means people waiting for funding, or people waiting on any waiting list (ie. donor) ?
And if so, then I'd have take my treatment if offered, before next March or not at all.

Very confused

 No worries, answered the questions myself!

I phoned the clinic this morning. I am no longer on the waiting list as they assumed that I no longer wanted treatment :?:

I was told that although we'd been allocated 2 NHS funded cycles, they had now taken our last cycle away from us, we are no longer eligible because we have adopted.

I can see that childless couples should get funding way before us luckier people, but do they think that because we've chosen to adopt, then I no longer have that need in me, to one day bear my own baby? That's what hurts the most.

Good luck to everyone who is undergoing treatment, I wish you all the very best.

x
