Any suggestions for injections?

Post by the3lowes »

I have been taking Lupron, and this morning had my first Menopur/Bravelle injection. It hurt!!! Any suggestions for how to make this injection go more smoothly?

Hi,
I don't know if you're using a pen or a syringe, but from reading other people's experiences, the syringe seems to hurt less.
I used a cream called EMLA (don't know if it will exist in the US but there must be similar) so couldn't feel the needle, but could feel the liquid go in. If you give the sight a quick rub afterwards it helps the liquid disseminate. But I found aloe vera gel an absolute boon as it took away the stinging.
Hope this helps.

When you 'pinch the fat', look for a white patch - where it is white there is not so much blood circulating and so it hurts less. Test with the tip of the needle first and if just a little pressure hurts, move elsewhere. Also make sure the liquid is room temp before you inject - it is always worse cold. I found the best place to inject was just under my navel.

Thanks for the suggestions. We have been using the ice pack and it has helped tremendously. I have now had 4 shots, and the last 3 have been with the ice. I wouldn't do it without it now!!!

Hey - just another suggestion. My best girlfriend is an RN and she has been kind enough to give my progesterone shots since my dh is terrified of needles. Anyway - I was doing Lupron and Stimms myself and I, too, thought the stimms burned! She told me to make sure that the rubbing alcohol is completely dry on the skin before injecting b/c that can make you burn. After she told me that - they no longer burned. I found it got easier as I went along. The ice trick works too - I use that on my butt before every progesterone shot.

GOOD LUCK!!

Another tip for the injections -
If they are stinging as they go in, inject very slowly. I barely feel them now!
