How Many to Transfer? Need Advice ASAP

Post by Mazy++ »

Hi again, another question,
I need advice, I'm so nervous about this! I had the Egg Retrival yesterday and they got 10 eggs, 4 have fertilized. I really wanted to have some left over to freeze, in the hope of a second child one day but they want to transfer back in all 4, due to my age (41). I'm wondering how many your docs recommend transfering? I would like to transfer 2 and freeze 2. I just don't know what to do. They want to the transfer on Tuesday (3 day) so I have to hurry up and figure out what to do. My doctor doesn't really give me any straight foward answers.
Thanks SO MUCH for your advice.

I would go with your doc and transfer all 4. My clinic will only freeze if the embryos make it to blastocyst (day 5 or 6) since they would be strong enough (most likely) to survive the freeze and thaw process. If you transfer only two, there is a likely chance that your two might not make it through the freeze/thaw process. You should go with the sure thing if your transfer is a day 3.

I had 17 eggs with 11 fertilized and by day 5, I only had 2 to transfer and nothing to freeze.

Good luck!

freeze and thaw?

Post by Mazy++ »

Hi Angieleto,
Thank you for your reply and advice, this is so difficult. Have you had your transfer yet? I so hope all is well. I'm not sure if I ought to have them transfer 2 and freeze 2, but then as you say they might not make it through the freeze and thaw process. Have you learned that many don't freeze and thaw well? Maybe we will go for the more "sure thing", even though that might not work either, since I'm 41.
Thank you again,
MZ

Transfer ALL 4! The other two might not make it to freeze... It is unlikely they would all take so don't be afraid of that. Do what to Dr. tells you.

I am 33 and just finished my cycle. I had 11 eggs, 6 fert. and only three made it. So we transfer three grade 2, two cell on day 2. I got a BFN result however.

So my advice it transfer all that you have or you might loose some.
