Hi,
I am new to IVF and am starting Lupron on Monday. Anyone else starting their cycle? I am looking for some support and advice on how to handle everything!!! My husband and I are really excited about this but also very nervous that it won't work.

HI!!! I stared Luprin and Follistun on Tuesday. I'm desparate for someone to talk to through this process. I went in today and they only saw 5 folicals. I'm a little disouraged. I'm 40, my husband had a vascetomy reversal and has a low count so we are doing ISCI with assisted hatching. How are you doing this week?
Hi! I have not started the Lupron yet. I am starting on Monday so I am excited and nervous at the same time. I have "unexplained infertility" which has its positives and negatives! The doctor thinks that I have a good chance with IVF but we have also given permission for assisted hatching and ICSI if necessary. They have had me on a birth control pill for 3 weeks now prior to starting the Lupron.
Don't worry about 5 follicles, they say between 4 and 6 is good!!!
Hi and thanks for writing. Sounds like you have great chances! Is this your first try? The Follistum shots are very easy and I don't have any side effects. I'm sure you are anxious to get started!
I went in this morning and I'm down to 4 follicals. We only have this one time to try so I'm considering putting in some donor eggs with mine. I'm still thinking, but I really thought I would get more eggs. They say that only about 1/2 of what I get will fertalize to the point that they can be implanted.
Keep me updated on how you are doing, and I'll do the same.
Hi everyone, it's amazing on how many women are all going thru the same things and it's nice to chat with them. this will be my 3rd time doing IVF. I just started Lupron on Oct 8th and am waiting for my period to get here. I do not have to do any follistim because I am using donor eggs since I am 43 and my doctor suggested that would be best - which was a tough decision since I have 2 kids thru a previous marriage (that are both teens now). My present husband doesn't have any kids so we are trying - it's been a tough road.
waiting for baby - hang in there, it is a very exciting thing to do but it is also a little nerve wracking but don't go into it thinking it won't work. Just do everything the doctor says and keep positive. It will work. Just remember whatever happens - it happens for a reason. Good luck and keep writing!
KF'06 - good luck to you also.
usma3690 - I was on follistim early on when I first started this and I didn't create that many eggs. I was 41 when I started all this - now 43. I'm using donor eggs now and we are on our 3rd IVF try - and we are doing ICSI with assisted hatching also for the 3rd time. Right now i'm on lupron and just waiting for the next step. we are hoping to do the transfer on Nov 3rd - can't wait!! Don't be discouraged, just be positive.
well Good luck to everyone and keep in touch thru the process!! I will keep my fingers crossed for all of you!!
Great to hear from you. I applaud you for doing this a third time!!! I'm sure you know how much your chances will improve with donor eggs. My husband and I just had this discussion yesterday. At first I was thinking that would never work for me, and now I wish I had done it. I'm so anxious to hear how it goes for you. Does your donor go through this whole process once you've choosen her or are her eggs frozen?
With the first two tries how many eggs did you produce, and eventually transfer? My husband had a vascetomy reversal in Feb. and is giving me till Spring to get pregnant so I'm in a panic. We each have kids from our first marriage, I even have an adpoted daughter, but I really want a baby with him. I wish I had done donor eggs as I hear it's very expensive and I don't think we can afford it after this attempt.
GOOD LUCK!!!! let me know how it is all going. They take my four eggs on Thursday.
Hi Everyone!! I am starting my 2nd IVF cycle. I will start my Lupron shots on the 25th. It sounds like I have the same story as a couple of you. I have three teenagers and my husband has no children. We really want to have one together. I am 40 and he is 43. I am really praying that we all get BFP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
rhaynes - Would you mind telling me about your first attempt. How did that go for you. How long did you wait for the second. Was it hard to try again?
Thanks for sharing
My 1st attempt was last October. They were only able to retrieve 4 eggs and only 2 made it to transfer. Of course, a BFN. My husband is a real positive person and initially, he took it alot harder than I did because he was so sure it was going to be a BFP and I am the type of person who tries to prepare myself by thinking "a little negative". It took me a couple of days for it to sink in and then it hit me hard. Everything I went through (shots, retrieval and transfer) was a piece of cake except for the emotional roller coaster it took me and my husband on. We briefly talked about it a couples weeks after the BFN and he wasn't ready to go right into trying it again. It took us a year to prepare ourselves emotionally to try it again. So here we go. I have more knowledge this time around and I know alot more about what is going on, the do's and don't, etc., so I am a little more prepared than I was the first time.
I think we have switched roles this time. I am really positive that its going to result in a pregnancy and I think he is "reluctant", I guess you could say.
I think I'm like you. I'm trying to expect that it won't work so that if it does, it will be a bonus. At times I think I'll be OK, then other times I think about the finality of it and the end to all my "dreaming". I might have to take up shopping! Please keep in contact with me. I'd love to hear how you are doing.
Did you do ISCI, or assisted hatching the first time? My Dr. told me the about 1/2 of the eggs retrieved will fertilize and each one transfer will have a 155 chance. This is at our age - 40. Have you heard anything different?
Yes, we did assisted hatching and ICSI the 1st time and will do it again this time. They have switched one of my meds (repronex to menopur and I will take two shots of follistim this time instead of one) which will make it 5 shots a day instead of 4. The only problem the doctor saw last time was I didn't have enough eggs. Like I said before, they were only able to retrieve 4.
I have heard the same about the 155 chance. I guess we need to keep reminding ourselves that, at least we still "have a chance".
Yes, I would love to keep up with you and anybody else that wants to join in.
Am I right in you are having your retrieval this thursday, 10/19?
yes, my retrieval is Thursday or Friday. I'll know more tomorrow. I only have four follicals growing so it's sounds the same for me as it was for you last year. Do you remember how many follicals you had when you went in for your retieval last time and you got four. My Dr. told me the the ovulation drugs don't work well on "older" women. I guess I thought I would be different, but it's not the case.
