Hi everyone...

here I am, with my babyboy doing a little sleep... a proud mum, two years later..

I often rethink of IVF and how sad and strange period it was.
After ivf 5, I accepted that I would be childless (and to be honest I had so much enough of this whole circus) If only you would be sure of success then you can endure anything... but this uncertainty...

I will never forget all those women waiting, hoping praying... and I sure hope there will be an even better answer to infertility than IVF.

In the meantime, all all the best for you, I hope you get what you want and if not, that you have peace of heart...

love,
Alette

Thanks for posting your story, it was the inspiration I needed. Seeing my RE next month, when I find out if they'll let us do a 4th cycle. Like you, my fsh is low 4.2 . So I hope that will be something to speak our favour, to balance out the fact that I'm 43. Congratulations, you both look so happy.

Heidi, I hope that you get your 4th attempt.

My request was denied in # 5, only on 2nd thoughts they kindly agreed to give me ivf 5, not that they believed in it... no, they did not... (to be honest, neither did I) but to give me the feeling that I could finish ivf satisfactory(ly?).

And I was sooo unhappy. Cried so much. Agreed when they told me. But a few days later, crying all day, I thought: NO. This is MY LIFE. This is MY FUTURE! They can not decide for me! I want to be the one who is saying: I have enough (and believe me.. I was so close, I was so fed up with the treatments.. ) not the hospital! And everything so okay! low fsh, eggs good quality, sperm well enough... a lot of cyro's after..

did you know I even got pregnant after my little boy?
It did not work out, helas. I got my period only a week later..

In Israel you can have 7 attempts orso. And I think that is more reasonable! In nature women need about a year (12 months) to conceive... why limit it to 3 attempts for women who need ivf? I think we have less chance with limitations to 3!
(In Holland after 3 attempts you have to pay yourself... about 3000 euro, that is why most women stop after 3 ivfs).

In my opinion, infertility is an illness and should be treated that way!
and I know, not everybody conceives with ivf, but we should all have a fair chance!

Heidi, I so hope for you that your dream may come true!
And I hope you have a good docter to help you, to see your need and to see that you really have fair chances!! And with a low fsh, I am sure you surely have!!!

ps, that is not me on the happy picture..(doesnt matter, that is a friend of mine... I am the one on his 2nd birthday).

this is my boy now, almost 5 years old!

I wish you, and all the women waiting for a child, all the best, all the luck, and above all: the child you long for!

love

Alette, I just joined this forum and read your incredible story. It's so inspiring. My husband and I been trying just over 3 years now. I'm 30 and he just turned 31. Diagnosed with unexplained infertility. He has kids from previous marriage. We tried clomid for 3 months, 2 iui's and nothing happened. Last year we got our first BFP with IVF, sadly I miscarried 6 weeks later. There was 2 sacs.

I really feel that my high stress levels had a lot to do with it. I'm naturally a stressful person and adding infertility to the mix made me crazy! We decided to take a break and will be trying again next month. I've started acupuncture and found that it really helps. I also started blogging (randomgirltalk.com) so that I can get everything out and that's helpful too.

You and your boy are gorgeous. I seem to have missed how it happened. Was the 5th ivf successful? Can you share if you did anything different then and how the experience was for you? Thanks.

now and then I pop in (cannot forget you girls!)

yes, our son happened with the final ivf (nr. 5), I have had 24!! IUI treatments ,first 6, then 6 again and while I was on the waiting list for ivf, I was allowed for another 6 and the 18th attempt was bingo. But I miscarried with 10 weeks.
Then, because I had prooven to get pregnant by IUI, they allowed me another 6 attempts IUI, but helas unsuccesfully.
Then the ivf started and, strange, no one could explain, we always had a lot, a lot of good embies, also frozen ones, but the defrosting was a problem here, they hardly survived.
After 3 times ivf (which in Holland is the limit, after that insurance does not pay anymore) my husband went to the hospital (I was in Cuba for my work) to ask if we could have the 4th attempt. Yes, we could. And then ivf 4 failed and the hospital told us that further attemps were useless, it was a waste of our money they told us.. and that was were this topic started...

this is our little boy, last October in Italy.
(well, he is not that little anymore, he is already a big boy, almost 6 years old and learning to read and write)

Hi Alette

Glad to see your post - I still pop in from time to time.

Our DD was our 4th and final attempt - she will be six at the end of November. I never had any embryos to freeze and never considered egg donation or adoption. I have just turned 50 and love that I have a beautiful young daughter to keep me fit and young. I will never forget the hard roller coaster ride we endured and I appreciate every single moment with DD. She is a true miracle to myself and DH and we are glad that we did not have to accept the alternative.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Its always good to get a second opinion. May be check other clinics. I would recommend BioTExCom in Kiev, Ukraine. I am being treated there right now and have come to like the place! Good luck.
