Chorionic villus sampling (CVS)

Post by beauty19 »

Has anyone had the Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) test? We are scheduled to do this next week and I just wanted to hear from anyone who has experienced this. I will be 12 weeks and my doctor highly recommends this.

Hope everyone is doing well.

I had the CVS test done at 11.5 weeks. I was really nervous about it, but it turned out to be a lot easier than I thought. The doctor put the needle through my abdomen using an ultrasound to guide him. I'll admit, it hurt a little when he took the sample but nothing too bad. The whole thing took about 10 mins.

I got the preliminary results in a week, two perfectly healthy baby boys! The final results came back a week after that.

Afterwards I had no bleeding, no cramping, no problems at all. It was so relieving to know early on that my babies had no genetic problems due to my age.

My only suggestion is to make sure you have a very experienced doctor do the procedure. The risk of miscarriage is directly related to the skill of the doctor, so you want someone who has done this often.

Please let me know if you any questions I can answer.
